Researching this on Google, I found the following links.

One is full blown review that indicates some quality issues.

The second link states that one of the Commodore models was recalled shortly after production for the second time.

Still seems like a pretty good car but reliability is a key for me. CR said the GTO was below average.

Good, they will get all the bugs worked out down under before it shows up here. :D

Holden build quality isn't perfect, nor is it from any manufacturer. Since VE has been on sale other more vaunted 'brands of quality' such as BMW, Honda and Toyota have suffered more recalls in Australia than has Holden VE

Regarding Toyota, here overall is their current list of 'winners' ..

It's the first production year of a new car so quality issues are bound to happen.

They should have them ironed out by year two or three.

CR said the GTO was below average.

Why anyone would still listen to these idiots, I don't know. SUV soccer moms I guess still do.

From memory, one (possibly two) of Holden's VE recalls was preventive; no faults were actually experienced in the field.

Recalls don't bother me, it's when they don't admit there is a problem~~ie strut rub, rubbing fuel lines ect..

Those 2 issues have been rectified. When there is any all new from the arse up you can get minor glitches in cars. They were also out sourced parts. Holden are well known to address any issues regarding quality very quickly in order to ensure its customers are happy. I am rapt with my SS-V and the customer service provided by General Motors-Holden. The whole VE range won the Car of the year award here outpointing the New VW Passat, Audi TT, BMW 3 series coupe. It has now one 4 awards in Australia. So dont concer yourself as the VE will have been produced for over 12 months before you get it in the U.S of A.

Oh forgot to say, its already been on export for 10 years as Chevy's in the middle east.
Also the G.T.O was based on the 1997 Holden VT commodore. Quality has improved massively since then.

Guys if you buy a G8 make sure everything is ok with it. Allot of VE owners are having small issues with their cars.

AC fan stops working
E Brake adjustment
Bluetooth issues
Rattle in Dash - Just an adjustment thing
Some rattles in drivers door or your passenger door.

There are some more but they are rare cases.

Nothing major, just things that won't happen on the Series II

It's expected with a brand new car. Maybe the Pontiacs will have these minor issues fixed before being exported.

But the owners are still staying it's best car they have ever had. :)

there has been one issue with the G8 already... but Holden caught it extremely fast and asked all dealers to take care of it before putting it on the lot.

Haven't they been selling the Commodore for a year now? Anything major woud have been caought now. So essentially, the G8 is a second year car, only major new thing is the front end. And GM's V8s are about the most proven technology in the auto world. Relax.

the G8 I test drove was solid, flet like it had been carved out of a single billet of steel.

They are beyond biased. Last year, CR rated the Honda Ridgeline as the best pickup. How is a vehicle built on a unibody chasis considered a truck? Furthermore, the Ridgeline offers only a V6 engine, one that gets 16mpg un loaded. What a freaking joke. The Chevy is SO much better.

Is 2.1 million miles worth of testing a normal amount for a new platform? Sounds like it is high number to me but I am not in the auto biz.

On the G8 I test drove on Wednesday the Airbag light on the gauge cluster was blinking the entire time I was driving it. Both myself and the salesman had our seatbelts fastened.

I spent $1,200 for an extended warranty that is 6 years/100K miles. It is bumper to bumper for nearly everything. It was the first time I've ever purchased an extended warranty (I'm 37 year old and have bought many cars).

CR said the GTO was below average.
You would expect anything less from CR. They are completely bias against ANYTHING that remotely has GMs hand on it.

But if it's European or Japanese it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I gave up on that rag years ago...

I will be sellign the GTO for the G8 due to reliability problems. I hope this car isnt even 1/4th as problematic as the GTO, or i'll be in some serious trouble... hehe

CR has a distinct bias against american makes. I had a pontiac grand prix. Supposedly below average on quality and reliability. Id say 225,000 miles without more than what I would label as typical wear and tear as way above the below average quality rating. That car was in the shop maybe a total of 4 days in the 11 years I had it.
