: NAV-less interior?

Everyone is oohing and aahing over the interior of the G8 equipped with the navigation unit.

My question is- does anyone have any interior pictures (most likely of the Commodore) without the navigation unit? Do we still get the display, only the nav aspect of it is deactivated, or would it be completely new switchgear?

Try Holden's website. They probably have pictures.

Looks like we might be getting the screen minus the navigation.

Photo with unit minus the Nav button.

If thats the case thats very good news, I love the display but dont really feel the need for a nav.

Also I checked the Holden site and I could only find pictures of the interior with the display in the photo above- in a fully decked out interior.

So it looks like dual zone climate control is only available with the nav?

That is a little disappointing. :o

dual zone is only available with the screen - nav is another option ontop of that. You can have the screen + DZ without navigation.

Glad it's available without a screen, which to me = another thing to break.

Yes you will still get the display as incorporates a lot more than just the sat nav. That screen which comes from the Calais-V also can be used to watch DVD's if Pontiac offer it as a option. Calais V uses it also for front and rear parking. Sat Nav only became available on the Commodore range over the last couple of months. Check out www.holden.com.au look up the commodore and you can see photos of interior as well as exterior. While there check the luxury long wheelbase Statesman and Caprice which are stretched luxury Commodores. These are very popular in the Middle East where they are known as chevy Caprice. John

That photo is the budget SS which replaced the SV8 here. You will get the SS-V looking at the photos. The red display on its own is for the Holden. What I have seen of the G8 is a combination SS-V Holden Calais-V. We do not have the combination here. Its one or the other. Anything Holden ask me as have owned them my whole driving life and my parents also.

I personally wouldn't want a nav system. I'd be fine with the screen if it was linked to the radio controls, but that's just one more thing to detail.

I hope it has a screen.

That means it can be hacked into to be a screen for a carputer. (DVD's only play @ stop?....pshaw!)

Ok.here's what is available throughout most of the VE range.
2 versions of sat/nav
Option 1 is the full colour map in the centre display. there are 2 versions of this...with out without telematics (holden assist)
Option 2 is "turn by turn" which displays left and right arrows in the instrument display directly in front of the driver...again with or without telematics. All variants of sat/nav have steering wheel controls and are required with the installation kit. Currently, sat/nav is approx $2,500.00 oz plus installation.....but it does include a current map disc.

As has already been pointed out, the G8 showcar has no buttons which indicate that its screen is NAV-equipped.

The G8 will probably not have a NAV option anyway because GM will want buyers to use OnStar's turn-by-turn navigation instead...

I would also point out that Nav didn't become available on the Commodore until early Jan. 07. It is quite possible that it just wasn't available in time for the G8 show car.

I would speculate that it is offered as an option on at least the GT. Holden uses the turn-by-turn in there less expensive models and the "full colour" Nav on the SSV. Nice profit center and why else would you add the cost of an LCD screen to a car if you are only using it to display HVAC readouts and radio stations. Surely, you would offer more (Nav, DVD, etc.) to justify the added cost.
