: G8/Holden VE exhaust/undercar pics?
StolenFox 02-07-2007, 06:42 PM Does anyone here have access to photo's of the exhaust system or undercarriage? I am trying to determine if there is something I can build for these cars when they are available.
Thanks!

You need a car to put it on first.................:D
speeddemon 02-07-2007, 08:12 PM wheres my G8? :wall: also since a G8 would be my DD,I suspect they will have resonators etc that we can replace easily....but what you sent me for my goat is stainless right? I need something for the G8 that will not rust....
nsofokles 02-07-2007, 08:53 PM Dang your trying to get ahead of the game early huh

speeddemon 02-10-2007, 05:39 AM is that a resonator I see :o ;)
I wonder if the G8 gets the knockout for the trailerhitch too?

McPhee 02-12-2007, 02:00 PM So single cat, dual mufflers?
Also...looks like the oil filter is easy to reach at least. I hate working on my Saturns....
HORTENSE 02-12-2007, 11:46 PM hmm.... so that resonator can be swapped for StolenFox's H-Pipe... but where should the cut-outs go?
StolenFox 02-14-2007, 07:21 AM is that a resonator I see :o ;)
looks like an aftermarket one to me.......but that speaks to the design of the OEM system. I still need pics of the stock setup! Ive emailed pedders, difftechnics, and holden.....nobody wants to help.

Greg has been a fantastic resource. It has been confirmed.........the G8 will have a resonator and as such there will be a "StolenFox" H-pipe designed for it as well.

2 cats, 1 resonator, 2 mufflers.
Headers look like they'd even be easier to do on a G8 than a GTO!

The term collector is used for the part of the header that combines the primary tubes. In this case the area that has (4) 1 3/4" openings into (1) 3". No worries - between terminology between countries we get all messed up. Did I say headers? I meant extractors ;)
BTW more notes:
Exhaust tucks up REALLY nice and tight in the tunnel.
Trans cross member is nearly identical to how a GTO one looks. It has some neat exhaust hangers on it.
There is a tunnel brace that goes over the exhaust and driveshaft. I wonder if a driveshaft saftey loop could be fitted to a heavy duty repalcement piece.
Aussie headers *might* fit on a RHD G8 because of the location of the steering rack (depending on things like trans lines, brake lines, and the steering shaft, etc)

Yes, you are right - the 3" diameter tube with flange that the "'cats" bolt to.

No way to get the turbo's high enough to run with out the scavenge pump?
Street Tuner 02-21-2007, 01:38 PM Thats right Devil :)
Scavenge only on these big boys, but unlike some, our scavenge system is highly durable (no corners cut on pumps etc) :)

I'llBeHoldenOn 06-03-2007, 03:08 PM Interesting pics, is it relatively easy to get to the oil filter and drain plug when the car is on the ground? Looks like it should be. I like to do my own oil changes, hopefully this can be accomplished just by using the supplied tire jack and sliding underneath...

I'd imagine it would be possible but not easy, I've tried.

Is the car just too low to the ground or is the filter/drain plug in an awkward place? I guess my perception is skewed because my Subaru already has tons of ground clearance (relative to the Commodore/G8) and all I have to do is jack it up a bit.
So do you take yours in to a shop for oil changes?
immortal 06-04-2007, 10:19 AM About the filter & drain plug, they aren't placed awkward, it's just that the car is too low to get under there with just the jack.
And yes, I do change the oil at a near by shop. Around here oil changes don't cost zilch ;)

Hmm, that sucks for me. I guess I just don't trust anyone to change my oil, besides the Subaru dealer is nearly a half-hour away. The Pontiac dealer would be closer though.
My parents drive GS300s, that's the closest thing to a G8 that I have experience with, but I can still change the oil in those.
I guess I'll just have to wait until the G8 hits the dealer lots here, maybe I can ask them to jack one of them up for me so I can see how hard it would be. :D
CMNTMXR57 06-08-2007, 12:35 PM What it looks like to me, is that it is a front steer chassis. This vs. the 281 platform our GTO’s ride on that is a rear steer setup.
This is why the headers, oil drain/filter, and other stuff are different and the headers much easier to replace.

Just go buy a set of Rhino Ramps for <$30, no jack needed!
CMNTMXR57 06-11-2007, 01:53 PM Haven't ever had a problem with either my F-Body or this GTO changing the oil. The ramps like mentioned above work, but I prefer to have my LSx powered cars level during an oil change, so with the GTO, I lift it via the lift points on the subframe of the car, then put cinder blocks under the tires.
KaiserM715 08-28-2007, 07:05 PM NVESS-
Any issues with GM warranty with the long tubes (if you have taken it back to the dealer)? I realize warranty issues may be handled differently in the States, but w/ a 5yr / 100k warranty here, I would hate to void it.
Gpdan 08-28-2007, 11:19 PM so after taking a look at the undercarrige pictures i do have a question about clearance. Would it be possible to put some electric dual exhaust cut outs???
climbin350 03-12-2008, 04:54 PM Bump for this ^ question. I'd like to know also.
BlueGoat 03-12-2008, 06:41 PM Be careful if you buy ramps for oil changes. I have a set of ramps that are about 1/2" too steep and they scrape the front fascia on my GTP and GTO. I have to put a small 1" board under the front of the ramps to raise the car just enough to clear the incline before the wheels hit the ramp. The G8 may have similar problems.
The G8 is lower than my '04 GTP. I am having a terrible time learning when to stop in parking spaces for curbs and those concrete stoppers. I already have a number of scrapes on the front and underside of the fascia... :(

Learned a long time ago, nobody will watch after your car except you! If you don't want door dings and parking lot bumper scrapes, park out in the toolies and walk in to the store! Most of us could use more walking anyway!:gr_jest:
Yep lower fascia scrapes are common on grandprixs.
Ausstar 03-16-2008, 01:27 PM so back to the exhaust q's... how easy would it be to install a basic cat-back system in the garage?? I love my G8 but the lack of note makes it sound like a Chrysler 300!! Im not 72!

Once I get some axlebacks built for the G8 it will be a 20 minute bolt on affair..........

jkgmh 04-06-2008, 07:02 AM I noticed this pic in another thread on here, but was wondering what the bit in the yellow area is on the exhaust on the G8 ? Our VE factory exhaust is straight piping there.....

holyrollerz 03-30-2009, 08:46 AM i wouldn't put cutouts in this car. During my SLP axleback install, I took the car out for a test drive without the rear mufflers. Sounded incredible, but I lost a ton of power without the backpressure that the rear muffs create.
