Hey all, I did a search and couldn't locate anything. Will the GT have a full-size spare, or not?

GT's get none. They get a tire repair kit and pump.

I'm sure it's been posted but probably in feature lists - the GT has no spare at all, just a "tire inflation kit".

At least you should be able to order one from GM. Or, like most of us, get a cheap aftermarket wheel & tire that's the same size as the wheels on the car. Pitch that in the trunk & rest easy.

When you buy your G8 GT, cut a deal with the dealer for another wheel from parts at cost or cost + 10%...drop by your favorite tire shop for a matching tire and you now have a matching spare and a ready back up for any wheel rash or damage...$400-500 but you are spending $33m...If I get a GT I will let you know how it works...I know the parts list price for the Z-71 wheel on the 07 silverado is around $250...

Also some dealers put on after market wheels and you may be able to get a take off at a fair price..??

I thought there were laws mandating a car be equipped with a jack and a spare tire? I know here in Maryland, the inspection process includes checking the spare tire's condition as well as existence of a jack.

Maybe only if it comes from the factory that way. 96 corvettes had no spare.

I'd agree about the inspection process. If GM didn't give you one, then it can't be inspected. I'd presume they can put "N/A" in that box. I believe it's the same principle as not requiring classic cars to upgrade to today's standard.

I guess it does come with a space-saver spare then, huh? Nice!

Not even that. Just a can of fix-a-flat. But I believe that there is a space for a spare in the usual spot.

It's an ultra space saving spare tire...just a can of goo.

And instead of an emergency brake, there's a hole in the floorboard for Flinstone feet.

I'm not going to give a crap about the missing spare until I throw a flat and I'm stuck in the snow waiting for the roadside assistance truck to tow my butt. Then I imagine I'll be a little irate.

I checked out #866 GT today, and the spare tire hole is plenty big for a full-sized tire. That's one good thing.

Here's a pic of my G8 GT's place for a spare

Yeah, that's huge! You could fit a couple kids in there!

the reason it's not there is because it throws off the equal 50/50 weight distribution. most high-end sports cars dont have spares, it's nothing new.

So they have a big hole there for what then? Balance? Storage? The V-6 has one, so they don't care? I'd love to know the real reason behind it. Maybe extra money, so they threw in the inflator to keep it under $30K.

I believe Holden is doing the same thing. They offer a full size spare as an option. theGeneral is right though. BMW and others are doing the fix-a-flat thing to save weight.

My thoughts are that they wanted to keep the base weight below 4k at 3995lbs.

Think of it this way, the spare tire compartment is a great extra storage compartment to keep the trunk tidy and ready for loads of other stuff

I saw 888 #'s 582,584, and 595 this weekend....just can't wait for the GXP....now on the spare tire area....you could easily fit 3 10lb bottles of nitrous in there if wanted!! ;)

I'ts not 50/50 to begin with. The GT is nose-heavy.

Mybe teh hole is only big enough for an 18" inflated tire not a 19, and V6's can't come with 19's.....so......BTW for 3 years no Solstice or Sky has come with more than 4 wheels/tires from the factory.

Do note that if you get a spare for the GT and get a flat on one of the back tires, you will have to swap tires around to get two tires of the same size on the back. If you run two different sizes in the back you can damage the limited slip. Might be why the GT gets a can of goo, you can't run different sizes if you don't have them.

My fatass weighs less than 130 pounds, big boy.

Every spec sheet I've seen for the G8 quotes the weight distribution as 51F/49R. Even if the distribution were perfect, the weight of a donut in a 3,990-pound car ain't gonna matter, do you think?

Zaphod B

Wait, 'scuse me - that's a 3,995-pound car.

I read somewhere that the weight distribution is closer to 50/50 when a driver and passenger are in the car.

I'd call 51/49 "near"

There is a genuine VE Commodore space saver (17 x 5) wheel & tire if you want a cheap option and also keep the weight down, cost is about $120-130

Plus, that tire would still leave a good space for storage of a jack, coveralls, and hand cleaner! Thanks.

Would a 19 stock wheel fit in that well?

I thought I read 51/49 with a driver and passenger.

I looked at the hole for the spare. It's friggen huge. I threw my jumper cables down there.
