My G8 seems to be suffering from either the lifter ticking problem or something else I have noticed. The manual says that the car can run on 87 octane fuel unless it doesn't perform as well then you should use 89 octane. It doesnt mention the use of 92-93 octane. I have tried a full tank of all three grades and noticed that the engine doesnt shake as much when at idle and runs pretty smooth when using 89 octane and cold start lifter noise is not as pronounced. When using 93, all of the bad symptoms appear. With 87 its just poor performance and lifter/knocking noise. Is there any technical truth to this? Thanks.

On my way in to work, this morning, I was approaching a light and decided to put it in “manual mode” to down-shift. Was doing about 45, down-shifted to 3rd and then 2nd. Car slowed down, revved kind of high as I put it in 2nd, and then as I was stopped at the light, I noticed a “sputtering” going on so I put the car back in “normal” mode and when the light turned green, the car wouldn’t move, just started drifting. Gave it gas, nothing. Tried to put it in “sport mode”, and then give it gas, nothing. “Manual mode” nothing. So I drifted over to the shoulder and turned the car off and then back on, and it was all good! I drove the rest of the way to work (about 15 more minutes) and didn’t have any more issues. This is the first time i've had an issue like this and I've had the car since May of 09'. Check engine light never came on and I never got any other indicators.

Not sure what happened but has anyone else had a similar experience or any ideas as to what caused it to do that?

I'm looking for something that:

1) Will provide a nice wide powerband and fairly smooth idle
2) Works well with my intake and exhaust setup
3) Doesn't have higher lift requiring frequent valve spring changes
4) Will work acceptably with the stock TC with a slightly higher idle
5) Will not have P to V clearance issues without flycutting pistons

Since the car already has 3.27 gears the shift extensions are 5,000-5,300 with the stock TC - keeping me well in the powerband of even a moderate sized cam at all times. I also want to know what I need to replace while I am in there such as the cam tensioner, chain, etc. since I would rather not have a failure down the road.

Thank you for your thoughts!

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to get an Idea as to how safe it would be to run a Non-intercooled HTV1900 supercharger on a Stock Ls3 engine?

I live in Australia... in an area where the police constantly subject vehicles to searches for "illegal modifications" ... soo I wanted something I could take off reasonably easily if required.

What are your thoughts on a non-intercooled supercharger? What would be a safe level of boost to use ? and is there anything else I could do to improve cool air flow or reduce the probability of detonation ?

I spoke to one tuning shop over here and they suggested roller rockers  ... would that really be of any advantage ? I cannot see how these would have a huge effect ...

any help would be greatly appreciated ...

When I'm giving it some throttle it seems as if there is this ever so slight miss. When idling I can't tell it's there but when I give it normal accleration I can feel it and just barely hear it.
NO CEL... NO codes... Going to the dealer with it but does anyone have any ideas what this might be?? EGR, plugs, valves, lifters???

Hello everyone! I installed Livernois Dod delete kit with stage 2 cam, stage 2 L92 heads, and Kooks exhaust and roto-fab. Tune was mailed by Livernois. And now engine shakes very noticeably at idle. While warming up I can feel the smell of unburned fuel and car shows 6 mpg in city :( And one more bad thing is that while slowing down from 20 to 10 mph engine seems to be trying stabilize himself and it makes hardly noticeable moves forward and back and rpm fall to 500-600 for a short moment. While engine acts like this 5 or 6 knocks can be heard in tranny (knocks look like knock when you move from N to D).
Today I went to the service and made electronic diagnostic to find errors. But it showed that everything is ok.
Please help! How can I resolve all this problems?

Ok, as the title says I am starting to do my research now for some future mods to the car. I am looking into the Vector Motorsports Stage 2 cam package along with their ported intake, and converter, then have the car dyno tuned. The car is and will remain my daily driver, yes, even in winter. So in that realm I would like to maintain good street manners yet up the ante power wise. First question is will this setup maintain good street manners and drivablility? This is my main concern, if you feel their stage 2 cam package is to big please say so. If you have something very similar to this projected setup let me hear your thoughts and what you like and dislike about your ride. I thought about going with a turbo setup or a Maggie but I really like the stealth look!!! Can't get that with a turbo or a Maggie hanging on the engine. Second question for now is what kind of power would I be looking at. I'm not looking for exact numbers but ballpark type figures. My goal is very low 12's or high 11's, does this sound reasonable for these planned mods? You can see the existing mods I have in my sig, they will stay on the car as well. If you have other suggestions by all means let me know, I'm all ears! Thanks for any insight that you can provide on the subject. Have a great evening! Tony

Last week the car started to overheat out of the blue. While moving it was OK, but stopping would make the temp climb. I checked the fluids and the overflow tank was dry and I could see no coolant in the radiator. I added around a half gallon to the radiator/overflow and all was well for a bit.

I drove the car for a couple hundred miles and yet again today, the engine temp begins to climb. This time I had coolant in the bottle, but couldn't see any in the radiator.

The only coolant change I have made is the heater hose lines, back in March. I have checked the fans, and they both come on when the AC is activated. I know they go high, because I can hear them just before the engine over heats.

I can't see any evidence of a coolant leak and I don't smell coolant out the tail pipes.

Could I not have burped the system properly and now with the hot weather it's coming back to bite me in the ass?

This time, I started the engine and filled the radiator until it almost overflow. At that point, I put the cap on. I then let it idle for a bit and then held it at 3K RPM for 30 seconds or so, then idle with the AC on. It hit 210 for a little bit but settled around 195 degrees Fahrenheit.
