Default Help with header install...ft Washington md

Anyone willing to give a hand, preferably someone that has done it before because I'm mechanically stupid.

Yes, I've decided to keep it. Nothing better on the market for the price. I'm going with SLP LTs.

I've never done them myself. I wish I could say I had extra time this week and the experience but...don't.

When are you planning on doing the install?

Its an easy install. Pretty much the easiest V8 header install thats out there. You can do it, take your time and go step by step.

I have installed a few sets of them on G8's. Mine, and a couple GT's. As you know I am local.

What are your intentions after headers? Its worthless without some type of exhaust and tune but I am sure you know that being a previous GTO owner. I have done a few sets of headers.

Couple tips.
1. Remove your sparkplugs before attempting to do anything else so you dont break any off accidently in the head.
2. Undo the steering linkage so the driver side headers will easily slide out.
a. Do not let the steering wheels turn during this step
3. Dont attempt to remove the O2's until you have the headers off the car.
4. Buy a new oil dipstick just in case. I snapped mine when putting it back on. I replaced it with a braided steel one from Pace.

If I think of anything else I will let you know.

Another trick is to remove the stock headers and cats as one unit if you can. Those top bolts can be a pain. Tie your steering linkage off so it doesn't move.

Well, got the SLP's and VCM intake. Local GTO owner is going to help with the install at his body shop.

Going to use BEHE for the tune.

Don't use BEHE for the tune. They don't have a good tuner. You have Frost in Richmond and Ed Hutchings that comes up from Va Beach to a shop in Frederick Maryland.

I would have said RPM who tuned my car but word is their top tuner is going into business for himself.

Granted this was 2 -3 years ago, but BEHE's tuner really had no idea what he was doing. Someone in the club had to take it elsewhere to get it fixed. Frost is conservative on tunes. Ed Hutchings is expensive, but really good.

I'm surprised about BEHE. They seem to do a lot of exotics and vette's/camaro's.

I would do some research. As Virus stated, Behe did NOT do a good job on a couple of our cars. RPM is an outstanding choice and they just north of the Delaware state line. Should only be 1.5 hours from you. Several of our cars have been there with no issues or complaints.

Of course, we are only going by what we have experienced from Behe a few years ago. Things could have changed by then, but I haven't heard anything positive or negative about them since then.
