Have you driven one? I did. I really like it. It reminded me of a "big boy" version of my GTO - when you step on the the gas you forget all about the size and to be honest the size is welcomed to me because it makes it all that much more useful despite being a big damn toy haha

I also say go for it - it is a very visceral appealing car. It's old school but w/ a modern touch. It is the type of car that will last the test of time style-wise, and that engine is such a stout beast I could see holding on to the thing for 20 years. To think you can buy a 470hp 6.4L RWD BIG coupe like this w/ A STICK is so cool.
Yes I"ve driven one several times and your opinion is fair enough. In my opinion the G8 drives much smaller and sporty than the challenger does......no comparison. Going thru bends and the feel of the car sealed the deal for me. I really felt the G8 drove slightly smaller than it is where the challenger still felt like I was navigating a ship.
Like several others have said if your goal is a two door car I think there are better opitions than a car that weighs more than our 4 door does. As long as the OP is happy with whatever decision he makes, it is all that matters. Opions are merely that...........

You're agreeing w/ me. The 392 is a muscle car. The G8 is a GT

I know you're the argumentative type so I'm not going to derail this thread any further.

JTW - Best wishes in your decision and as I originally stated you will be missed if you move on, but emotional appeal is what keeps car guys blood pumping!

I agree 100%.... the car can change into anything you want it to.... add some performance stuff and it will not seem the same!!!!! or whatever.... every time I do something I fall more in love with it....

I would not leave this community if I sell the G8.

I say to go for it. Yes they are heavy and have land yacht characteristics, but they are also iconic and look mean as hell. Whatever you end up doing good luck!

And solo makes a nice exhaust for them as well.... I wish they would make one for the Mustang.

Top Gear UK considers the G8 a muscle car, one of their favorites.

I drove one today. Allow me to digress for a moment...

Well, I had some time to kill today while in between projects and since my week has been stressful, I decided to go out and look at possible replacements for the G8 (just in case I get the itch). LOL.

I looked at the ZL1 Camaro. Nice but too much money for me. I can order a 1SS, 1LE (ZL1 parts) for about $37K but every time I go look at Camaros, I have a hard time seeing it as an improvement over the G8.

For fun, I stopped at the Mercedes dealer. I drove an E550 4matic with 402HP. It was nice. I told them for the price, they'd need to track me down a used or off-lease one. At Mercedes, for something of G8 size and power, you're looking at $60K+. That's out.

Went to Dodge down the street. Drove a Charger SRT8 with the 392. I liked the paddle shifters, Brembo Brakes and several other things my G8 didn't have. Overall, not a bad car. Will smoke the tires stock with TC off. I proved that today. I drove the Superbee version. A little costly though but I think we are spoiled with what we paid for the G8. There were some interior plastics that were already ready to fall off and I don't have a good feeling about the 5-speed Auto tranny as it already felt "loose" to me.

Then I drove the Challenger SRT8 392. Stick. Man, this car was a LOT OF FUN. I like it better than the Charger. It made me realize again how a Coupe feels compared to a sedan. Granted, it's not a Vette but this car was cool. Looks mean. Sounded good. Yes, it's big, perhaps too big. But overall, this car would make my short list of candidates to replace the G8 with.

FWIW, I knew more about the Chevy SS than the dealer did.

Thanks for the analysis, SpeedRacerX. Learned something new today, and G8's my favorite even with all this back and forth that JTW keeps doing.

Yeah I agree with that statement. Panzer definitely regrets that decision. Also maybe it's me but the CTS coupe looks like an amateur performed abortion.

Wow, I didn't know this.
That kinda stinks!

And close to $50K? That is almost double what I paid for my new GT.

Must have missed my post. Diablosport has finally cracked the ECM for the 2011+. Also there was a way to use a 2010 ECM flashed for the 392 that you can tune.

I can agree SRT8's are pricey but they are nice. Don't like the interior in the Challenger though.
