Besides, there's always someone at each place that I can't stand to be around for more than a couple minutes. One sister's ex always has to be there and start at least one argument or fight. The fact he mentally abused my sister and her two kids for years doesn't help my disposition towards him either.

Another sister has a daughter that is exceptionally rude and you can't really say anything about it because she's handicapped. That sister's husband always wants to argue about politics and his sister always wants to argue about anything. Just a really unpleasant environment.

It's just more stress than it's worth and I really don't have the extra money to be spending on gifts anyways. So, I just stay home, cook a Christmas dinner for myself and watch one of the more modern Christmas stories (Home Alone 1 or 2, NL Christmas Vacation, The Santa Clause, etc).
come on no Christmas story red ryder bb gun or scrooged lol

im in ur boat kinda too i tried doin the all friends thing, then it started to turn out more of a family thing and u had to be nice but i dont hold my tongue well so the ended fairly quick. u always have that wierd awkward moment where u jus cant stand some ppl and they insist to start awkward convos u jus wanna walk away from or beat them down for it. this was the big turning point for me when i jus stopped caring bout it i was 17 or so and my family decided it was to much to cook xmas dinner and rather go to a steak house, and fin STEAK HOUSE are u mad i was like wtf really. so i said ill cook and they all laughed that was it i spent xmas with my friends or made dinner at my place ever yr they asked u commin i said go f-urself. holy rants batman i like it lol

i know blood is thicker than water but it also hurts more with that knife dripping ur own blood from ur back that jus got stabbed

^^^Amen!!

Satin has turned this Holiday into a "Me Fest". The world has lost the true meaning of this Holiday. It is only worth celebrating if you are celebrating it for the right reason, other wise it is just another day. It's not about us. God who became "Man" through an immaculate birth so that He could restore His fallen sinful creation back to Himself. It's all about what He did for us. You can believe in Santa or you can believe in the the true God who desires a personal relationship with you. Praise the Lord, Jesus Christ. That's what the holiday is all about.

Guys,
Of all the times of the year to complain about such minor things, leave Christmas out of it. I for one always enjoy getting together with my family, and while of course we all have our differences and flaws in our character, spending time with those that matter is never time wasted.

It's a shame that the gift giving is as important as spending time with the people you do love, even if it means also spending that same time with the people you may not . Try and bite your tongue for the people you do care about . Try and make it a happy time . I've lost two more family members in the last nine months, one as I type this and I'll cherish every holiday I had with them. These days when we are all so busy. It's the holidays I had with them . When your a kid ,its about the toys and I think alot of parents go farther then they can afford to see thier son or daughter smile . Now is I am older and my family gets smaller. Well this Christmas is nothing about gifts for me . Everyone is different about liking this holiday or not and why . Yes it sucks for those of you in retail and being p.c. can suck a little . A good push to get out of it and purse another career or strike. For those of you all alone this year. Try and remember there are plenty of others in the same boat. Well count me in as pro Christmas, despite the bad times. Merry Christmas all

its funny how some ppl need a special occasion to spend time with family but if ur close u dont need any holiday to spend time with them its more and excuse y u need a holiday to spend with. i dont understand how certain days of the yr dictate how u spend ur time who says u have to do this or that on this day i say if u use a holiday and an excsue to spend time with family are u really that close to begin with. bdays, vday, family day really.......i spent a lot of my time visitng my dad and didnt need no holiday to say i had to i choose to and these holidays came and left and nothing was different and when he passed the only thing i miss is my bday steak dinner with him where we talked bout nothing important no wrk, no health issues jus the fun stuff and after played pool and enjoyed some wobbly pops. I regret nothing how the time i spent with him cuz i did it on my own accord :P theres no such thing as u cant do this or u have to do this, u all have a choice good or bad ur gonna win and lose at the same time

Some people like in my situation work six days a week or more and barley have time to get chores done and other every day crap . I don't get every holiday off, mainly the major ones like Christmas and Easter and thanksgiving , That's it . There's certain people in my family that don't live close and so I appreciate the holidays to be with those people I don't see often. If you got that time ,cool. The last thing I would do though is kinda blast on people for their reasons of liking a holiday or not . Different people have their reasons and I don't judge . I feel bad for those who have to work crazy extra hours and im sure a few don't care if they do or not . In the end I live my life and let people live theirs and try not to judge a stranger for there beliefs or reasons for it.

Spending time with family is the best part of Xmas and as said in previous posts losing loved ones that were always a part of that yearly tradition of sitting around a big table with the people you love makes you appreciate the times you have with the ones that are still there that much more. Yes there is some time to spend with family through out the year for me but not the whole family and definitely not all at once. I drive to my home town every 1-2 months for a weekend to spend time with my family and friends back there but even that will be much harder to do once Im married and have kids. I feel for those that do have a family to spend this time with and wish them the best.

Merry Christmas you guys!

It's all about the imaginary man in the sky.

Santa Clause seems sometimes to have turned into a retail holiday season that seems to be "expanding" to bridge holidays now. What was it that I read, Walmart opened on Thanksgiving night to one-up the competition's black friday sales. Or just Black Friday in general.

Too many people get greedy around the holidays, which is unfortunate. Helping others in need and being kind to one another is what I associate with the "holiday season". And being with loved ones. Family time.

And final warning about religious discussion and content, this thread will simply get closed as religious discussion is against the rules.

I don't think anybody here said they need an excuse to spend time with family and as this thread goes on I feel you have a deeper personal reason for being so distraught around the holidays.

Agreed.

I think a lot of people do go overboard with their wants and what they expect of their gifts during christmas but as I have gotten older that's more of something of the past. Younger kids don't seem to understand the true meaning of christmas and it's more expected now a days for them to ask for extravagant gifts. They will eventually learn I hope.

I don't have any of that overboard gift expectations in my family anymore as everyone is older and the ones who are young are like two years old and don't understand anyways. Ignore society and celebrate Christmas with your family for what it's true purpose is.

and yes i hate xmas with a passion and most holidays just cuz of the fat kats and governments messing with them all. makes ppl think they have to do this when really u dont.
