Slightly off topic, but I bought my G8 solely for ONE reason.

The V-8 6.0L Chevy LS engine!

If you can't tell, I'm not a Pontiac fan of any type. Chevy guy through and through.

Always hated how the Pontiac heads pointed their headers down.

The reason Pontiac got shut down was because they weren't as profitable as other brands plain and simple.

Yep, Buick was kicking Pontiacs ass in sales world wide especially in China which is the future market. Even Mercedes Benz invests in the Chinese market heavily.

Stateside, Pontiac outsold Buick by almost double in 2008, the last full year before the announcement of Pontiac's demise. The numbers, were 267,348 for Pontiac versus 137,197 for Buick sold in the US. The Chinese Buicks were made in China, so no US benefit, other than if the US Buick went away, GM was afraid, so would the Chinese market for Buick. Pontiac was not marketed in China, and based on their outlook on life versus the "Performance Division", I doubt the Chinese Gov't would have allowed it.

I say big benefit for GM. All that profit came back to GM corporate here in the U.S.A.

Also, would you rather sell 200K items at 1 dollar profit or 100K items at 5 dollar profit?

Exactly on the last two posts. Buick was better setup for world wide sales so Pontiac got the chopping block. I work for Mercedes Benz and fully understand world market sales. We build almost as many vehicles for China as we do for US sales.

To the OP
Corvette LS3 motor makes 430hp with the standard exhaust system and 436 with the optional dual mode exhaust.

And yes I have a "Corvette" engine in my GXP as shown below.

Wasn't the GT's L76 also a "base" Vette engine in like 2005-2007 ?
Nope... My bad. Was thinking of the LS2, which I'm pretty sure is almost the same engine minus DOD... Kinda ?
