According to the Owners Manual the recommended Power Steering Fluid is DEXRON-VI Automatic Transmission Fluid.
Can someone verify that this is not a typo?
(According to the stupid owners manual I should also have reading lamps in my new G8 GT. I've looked all over for them - I even looked under the seats in case they fell off.... )
I had low power steering fluid this morning (may have a leak) car only has 8000 miles on it.
Called the service dept at the dealer and asked them the same question on why it says dexron. The tech said I should use regular power steering fluid.
Sounds like the dealership tech is not up to par on gm fluid requirements.
Most all gm vehicles and even other brands are now using transmission fluid for the power steering. Even my 2001 formula used it when new from the factory.
Transmission fluid is about the same viscosity as power steering fluid and the added detergents help keep the powersteering system runing smoothly.
