Lightbulb How quick is the INTENSE Twin Turbo G8?

I saw a few comments about this in another thread, and felt this question was worthy of it's own thread.

Quote:
ok, quick question. if Intense's GTP was pulling 9's will the G8 be pulling less than that?
Our quickest Grand Prix race car has run into the eights, but it weighs a LOT less than a fully streetable G8. Using one of the more accurate quarter mile calculators out there, here are some thoeretical times that our flagship G8 should be able to run on pump gas, with no weight reduction. We're assuming a race weight of ~ 4,400 pounds:

Totally stock G8 GT with a perfect launch, great traction, at low altitude and good barometric pressure = 361 crankshaft horsepower ~ 13.41 @ 101 mph

Totally stock G8 GT with INTENSE Level 1 Performance Package = 322 RWHP ~ 396 crankshaft horsepower ~ 13.03 @ 104 mph

7 psi with basic APS kit = 473 RWHP ~ 577 crankshaft horsepower ~ 11.47 @ 118 mph

9 psi with APS kit, larger injectors and exhaust = 545 RHWP ~ 665 crankshaft horsepower ~ 10.94 @ 124 mph

11 psi with APS kit, larger injectors, exhaust, fuel system, cam and balancer = 723 RWHP ~ 882 crankshaft horsepower ~ 9.95 @ 136 mph

Let me restate that the above calculations assume excellent traction, a perfect launch, low altitude and good barometric pressure. The traction piece of this puzzle will get more and more difficult to achieve as we turn the boost up.

So to answer the question more directly, yes, I believe nines are possible in our flagship G8 on pump gas, with no weight reduction and by the end of 2009. But it will take several trips to the track, perfect track and weather conditions and excellent driving.

My Bonneville SSEi made 372 fwhp and had a best of 12.19 with 3880 race weight. Add .5 tenths for the extra 500lb and then subract a second for 100 more whp and that mid 11's with the base APS kit seems completely reasonable.

No question the APS kit is going on my 09 this summer. A high 10 second sedan = 1 BAGG (Bad ASS Grocery Getter).

did it cost more to mod out the grand prix? im pretty much a newb. with that having been said: i don't plan to ever have a car that fast but it seems like having a V6 running in the 8's sounds way more impressive to me.

You gotta give it to Intense, you guys may blow up cars from time to time, but you gotta break a few eggs to make an omelet. There's no doubt that you know how to make sickening amounts of power.

Yes in terms of both time and money. It took us 7-8 years of developing parts, breaking stuff, finding fixes etc... to get a 3800 into the 9's. It took us about 1 year to get similar power into the G8 and 4 months of that was fighting with the fuel system.

How soon until we can see some track times? Im curious as to how the G8 will do in terms of traction at that power level. Obviously the car will have some slicks but it would be awesome to get that beast pulling some 1.4 sixties.

Just my 2 cents:

From our experience with the C6Z's I would say low low 10s is most likely but a high-high 9 isn't impossible. Mark's C6Z ran a 9.80 on WG's (8psi) but that was with quite a bit more than 723rwhp. Another customer's C6Z went 9.9 @ 136 making 701rwhp on our dyno but that was an Auto-conversion as well (1.4x 60-ft). The weight should actually be pretty close since his car weighed 3662 lbs w/o driver and G8's are not that much heavier. Not sure if your car is an Auto or 6-spd but our dyno testing has only shown about a 30rwhp loss at the 500+rwhp level so not a huge difference there.

Can't wait to see how she does

I wish you luck. I have 565 rwhp, 4250 lbs including fuel and driver and could only do 12.7 @ 119 mph on 285/20 street tyres. 6 speed manual and 3.70 gears. Bad axle hop and severe wheelspin. I have now invested in a set of drag radials but have not tested them out yet.

My Moroso Calculator shows around 11.3 seconds at 116 mph for a 4400 lb car and 545 rwhp.

I have now taken the LS3 out and am replacing it with a 6.7 litre LQ9 iron block with forged internals, COMP turbo cam etc and we will be running it at 15psi. It's due for completion in the next few weeks and I'll post how it goes.

The APS system is certainly the best quality twin turbo application around without a doubt.

A lot of interesting predictions here. We will find out who is the closest here very soon. We've done some half track passes and some tweaking on the tune settings but honestly we are in uncharted territory with the power we are making on this platform. The very few launches we've done have given Scott experience and confidence in the setup and we will send it blistering down the track for a full run later this month.

^ i like how the 1/4 mile times are in order, but when you read the prices, it's all over the spectrum...

edit: first run will be in the 11s, probably 11.4.. next run in the 10s, maybe 10.8.. then something will break...

Thumbs up

To help celebrate this record, we just announced a special '10.72 sales promotion'. We'll ship any order in the continental U.S. via U.P.S. Ground for $10.72 right now.
