Today, May 29th, Pontiac has released the preliminary 2009 pricing information for the G8, effective with Start Of Production.
2009 G8 Sedan Base is $27,995 including destination, $400 more than a 2008.
2009 G8 Sedan GT is $31,360 including destination, $1,365 more than a 2008.
The Option Packages (Premium, Comfort & Sound, Sport) and Free Flow Options (Power Sunroof, 18" All Season Tires) prices are the same as they were for 2008.

A bit surprised & a bit disappointed....
[[ Edit: So making XM 'standard' costs $400?????
...and why would the GT rise in price so much more than the 'base'?????]]
Unfortunately the way I see it GM cannot afford to slash prices on 2008's to clear them out once 2009s start showing up. This is their way of keeping early adopters happier that they did not wait. Also keep in mind taht the base and GT for 08 are so close in price that they may be having trouble selling V6's.

Probably. Suspected (by me) price differential for GXP of around $3500 added to $1365 and fully loaded 08 at $32745 yields $37610. If, instead they tack on $5 large then we are looking at $39110.

But I lost you on the math. Wouldn't old loaded GT MSRP of $32,745.00 + $1,365.00 = $34,110.00 for the new loaded GT MSRP?
Wow, glad I got an 08 then, they really were bargains as the magazines said, maybe between the exchange rate going south and everyone saying what a bargain the 2008 G8 is, GM realized they could bump up the price a bit as they had a better car than the Dodge boys did and were undercutting them on MSRP. Dealers did say they made very little money on the G8s.

Yes, that's the loaded GT, but look at my post again, I was estimating price of GXP. $34,110 still happens to be a good price point compared to the usual suspects. I expect the problem was that GM forgot to notify Toyota, Nissan, Dodge, Ford, etc that it planned on a deflationary pricing strategy with the 08 G8, too bad they were not paying attention.
As CP said, makes the '08s more attractive, makes up for the low intro price (money for GM) and gives the retail dealers (and GM) some more wiggle room on price. Plus helps with exchange rate on the dollar, and pays for the XM radio don't forget. The car is still a bargain, now its just not a steal anymore!
Methinks the $29,995 GT base price and the "Most powerful car under $30 grand" slogans were MARKETING...to get the car launched. Now GM has to make money on it, hence the price rise. Even with the rise it undercuts a similarly equipped Charger R/T by $1000s.
Glad I rushed to get a 2008, along with $3500+ in discounts, loyalty rebates and GM card $$$.
Face it there was no way GM could keep this going forever. The 2008 G8GT was hugely cheaper than competitor vehicles.
Wow my sales man wasn't full of crap, but I estimated a $500 bump, not $1400. I still got $1,000 off the MSRP, so I did pretty good on an '08. XM and Bluetooth will come for us early adopters, just give it time. I forgot all about a 2009 after a few miles behind the wheel of a 2008.

I backed out of putting a deposit on an 09 today. Actually made an offer on a GT identical to yours that is due in the dealership next week. Waiting to see if they accept it or not.

Good luck with the purchase! MGM is a sweet color!
Not surprised at all that they had to raise the price. However, in this economy I don't think it's going to help G8 sales much. Once the "early adopters" get theirs, G8 sales are going to drop like a rock unless the oil bubble pops.

Similar tactics brought the Solstice to market under $20,000 , now (2008) msrp has skyrocketed to over $23,000. Damn those $53 ea. tire sensors.
This is one of the reasons I jumped on the 08. I had a feeling they may jack up the price. The price to manufacture almost everything is going up including food.

And under that Almost everything my salerie is not included, oh well I won $40 off a doller scatch off. If I can keep that up it will pay off.
