Yes there are two lifter brands that have been used which is spelt out in the TSB (PIP4499B). But at the end of that TSB it clearly states that both those brands are in use with the Delphi being the preferred option and that if the "tick" noise continues even after replacing Eaton brand lifters with the Delphi brand lifters then the "revised" lifters will need to be installed when they have arrived. These are the ones I'm looking out for as they are supposed to have fixed the bleed back issues that are causing the ticking in both the Eaton and Delphi brands...... So does anyone know when these lifters will be out? Maybe their local Dealership has info?? Cause Australian Dealerships know nothing of this issue even though we build the cars here and export them to you guys?? Go figure??

I had my car for just over a year - 25k miles on it when mine started ticking continously. They thought it was a bad tensioner pulley (I knew it wasn't) and replaced that but the ticking stayed. They ended up replacing all 16 lifters and the camshaft. They said the new lifters weren't out yet, so I'm going to assume this is going to happen again. With them giving my engine 'open heart surgery', I have had nonstop problems since. What a nightmare.

Default may be in the same boat....

Mine started ticking yesterday. I had the stock tune reinstalled and drove it home and I think a lifter totally collapsed as it's running really rough and there seems to be unburnt fuel in the exhaust.

I replaced the Vararam with the stock air box and dropped it off at the dealer today. Hopefully they won't give me a hard time about the long tube headers....

I read where they replaced a cam for some people....when the lifter fails does it scrape the cam?

I am afraid I have a bad lifter as well. Kind of strange but it runs like **** until it is warmed up and then it runs fine. Sounds and feels like it is missing really bad and smells like unburnt fuel. I just installed a cam. Should have done DOD delete and taken care of the lifters then.

They said I need a cam as well as the lifter tore it up. Then they told me that none are readily available and they are trying to get one from another dealer.

The dealer had to replace my fuel sending unit, and pump. Fixed the same exact issues you are having. Ran fine when warm but was crap and had even stalled when cold.

They are going to provide me with a loaner car on Monday.

I inquired about having aftermarket parts installed and they said that they could not do.

Of those having lifters replaced if your car is out of warranty is GM eating the cost of the repairs? I have 65k on my 2008 and it has awful lifter noise on cooler mornings.

The 2008 models have a basic 3yr/36,000 mile warranty. I believe this repair falls under the powertrain warranty of 5yr/60,000 miles. Here is a link to the Pontiac Warranty. But none of this answers my question. Guys, were your lifter repairs handled under warranty?

I only have 29,000 miles on my '08 but they said it would be covered for 5 years or the 100K miles (whichever comes first) if it was to happen again.

Thanks Marauder. I am taking my car in for lifters, LCA's - again, and a driver side window that is loose - sigh. I will report back on my lifters experience.

^ 5 year 100k warranty on the Powertrain only If it is an engine or transmission related issue it will be covered. I believe the include rental car. Correct me if I am wrong but you get 12Month 12K warranty on the things like the LCAs after the warranty is up. Good luck with things quitplayn

I finally got pissed because one of my DOD lifters broke and clatters like hell whenever it wants to. I am in the process of ordering Lifter Buckets and the lifters from the LS7 engine, and Disabling DOD and AFM. With that I decided since I have to pull my Maggie off and heads to get to the lifters that I'm going to throw in a nasty MTI cam while I'm at it. You 09 guys aren't quite so lucky to do this. It's not near as easy because you have VVT to deal with. Screw dealers nowadays, since most of them always screw up or leave bolts loose on warranty work, or lie about work times, etc.

Yep, went through this with several people. 08's like mine are equipped with DoD only. 09's got DoD and VVT, along with a different style Water pump.
