Default Whats our real drivetrain % loss?

I was combing thru various dyno vids on youtube to get an idea of what other cars are making bone stock. I have seen on more than one occasion Chrysler guys claiming to lose 25%. That seems extremely high. I though 18% was more reasonable for any automatic. What is ours?

I don't know specific for our cars, but automatics are usually between 15-20%
I have No tune, only CAI & catback and it gave me 310whp. I'd say that at most the CAI and cat-back would give me 10hp. So that puts it around 17%, but then again that's guessing.

I seem to hear between 17-20% for auto and like 10% for manual.

Not all automatic transmissions are built equally.
I hear that the dodge transmissions are big time power eaters.

My friend lost 25rwhp going from his 4L60e to th400

I put my bone stock 08 GT on a Dynapack dyno when I first got the car. It put down 290 rwhp and 310 ft/lb rwtq. So for me it seems 20% loss was the average.

on my 403 tested on engine dyno versus car dyno with 6L80 and camaro rear diff... loss was 19%.....

for me with the 9" I also hear its eats another 20-25 rwhp and I am sure my 4L80 will eat up a bit more.......

so depending on your whole setup... it will vary... but I would guess most almost stock trans/rears will lose anywhere from 15-21%...

I'd say it depends on the car, but I'd wager its closer to 20% than 15%, stock auto GXP's have been dynoed around 330-340whp, they're rated @ 415 crank from the factory. My intake/exhaust/dyno tuned GT made 332whp, its probably between 405-415 @ the flywheel.

So I think 19-20% is about right for an auto. More like 14-15% for a manual.

Oh, and my car dynoed 293whp stock...so 19%ish from the factory I guess

got that right! on my 05 viper truck theyre said to have 505 hp crank and on a dyno it peaked out at only 410hp wheels.

Yep 16% loss is a good number for the G8.

GM claims 361hp (flywheel) for a stock G8.
People with stock cars seem to be making 290-295rwhp.

assuming 20% loss and 290rwhp, 290/.80= 362hp
assuming 18% loss and 295rwhp, 295/.82= 359hp

It's safe to assume we lose between 18% and 20% through the drivetrain, more or less.

Depending on dyno and the car anywhere from 15-20%! I'm just glad it's not as much as the AWD Audi's and some of the Chrysler drivetrains!

Old post, I know, but it's relevant.

I just recently (as in last Saturday) got my new set-up tuned by Pat G & Kurt, and now that I have an official dyno readout I've been trying to figure crank hp.
At 18% loss, I'm at 502.68 (!!) hp and 483.9 tq.
I would guess that the losses are the same, tranny tune or not, but I had no idea I'd be making that kind of power.
I guess we're fairly sure it's ~18%, but it's still hard to grasp for me.

My LY7 was on the dyno back in oct and way at 223.18 RWHP AND 224.85 MAX TOURQ, so mine is a shade over 10%. The LY7 is rated at 256HP at the crank about 12-13% loss,not bad..

Also depends if you have 20" wheels, they suck up power too.

If they are close to the same rolling diameter as the stock 19's they shouldn't correct? My rears are only .04" different.

275x.4= 110/25.4= 4.33+19= 23.33"

285x.3= 85.5/25.4 = 3.37+20= 23.37"

Total weight of wheels and tires is what eats the hp. Plus how far out from center that weight is carried. If the wheels weighed exactly the same but are 20 and 19 the 20 would require more hp to turn since the hoop of the wheel is out farther from center.
