Default Transmission filter?

I just got a call from the dealer, they've dropped my pan and don't have a filter in stock and have to order it. The guy went on to tell me that I don't "HAVE" to change the filter, and that it wouldn't hurt anything. So should I tell him to order the filter or just roll on like it is? It only cost me 70.00 to change transmission fluid by dropping pan!? I don't want to spend more than I have to! I've done some research but cant find an answer on this one! Thanks

I would get it changed. They can change the pan fluid without droping the pan via plug. It doesn't drop all of the fluid when doing this. So they could charge you for something they aren't doing.
Even when droping the pan there is still about half of the total fluid still in the transmission.

I'm confused... SOrry, I have no clue what this all consists of I just told them I wanted to pan dropped because of information I've read on these forms and what other people were doing. I only paid 75.00 so I'm guessing this filter is gonna cost 130 or so? because he said 200.00 for everything. I'd rather not do it if it's not gonna effect anything. My buddy who is a mechanic said theres really no need to change the filter at least right now at a little less than 60,000 miles.

Its up to you really, yes you can get it changed it shouldnt hurt anything really it should help. But if its to much yes you could skip it, They say the trans is good to 100k miles before any changes needed. But it all depends on your driving style impo.

I'm a little confused. You said in original post that the pan is already dropped? Usually it is around $70 for them to hook up the tranny flush machine and just change the fluid. The $200 sounds about right for them to drop the pan and replace the filter, but most of the additional cost is for labor not for the filter itself. I would say if the pan is in fact removed already you might as well have them replace the filter, if it's not then you should be fine just having the fluid changed.

this filter costs no more than 40bux.
Let them button it back up, tell them you will bring them a filter. Order the camaro deep pan and filter from Pace performance. Bring it to them, and have them change it.
GMP-24250062
cost-69 bux including the new pan. Why do anything else?

Why the camaro pan? Is it better in some way? I imagine most dealers won't change parts (especially driveline warranty covered parts) that don't belong on the car. He may have to go to an independent shop for that.

It allows more fluid which in return will take more of the heat out. Also the filter has a bigger pickup on it. Thats about it really. And yeah the dealer should have no issue its just a pan and filter that fits the same style transmission.

Pretty stupid to drop the pan before checking to see that they had a filter.

They've already ordered the filter for my car, it wont be here for 5 days. I'm thinking about calling them and canceling that and purchasing the camaro filter, is there a particular year camaro filter?

Your best bet is to get in touch with greg @ pace. He more than likely has the camaro pan and filter in stock ready to ship. If you need the part number Todd up above posted it. Google search it and it will take you to pace's web page. Also you dont need to worry about the pan sitting below the frame rails it just barely clears.

If you do go with the camaro pan and filter just make sure you let them know that it will need more fluid.. they should know this but sometimes forget or dont notice.

Yep, Pace sells the thing as a kit, 6l80e trans pan kit, it comes with then pan, filter and gasket, it might take 3-5 days to deliver though. i bought the kit from them.

You can also check with your local GM dealer, see availability and ask for a discount.
Pace sells the kit under part# GMP-24250062
But you can piece them together, perhaps cheaper, pace doesn't have great deals most of the times like other GM online dealers, or same or a litte more buckos, depending where you buy and how much discount you can get, a local delaer might have the parts right away, or it might take them only one day to have them. Perhaps the local dealer can sell it as a kit as well, ask them.

Camaro Trans pan kit Part#s
GM 24250062 is the Trans Pan
GM 24236933 is the filter
GM 24224781 is the gasket

Cannot just fit the camaro filter under the G8 pan. You need to change them both. The part number above is for BOTH. IIRC, the fluid costs more than the parts.

Alright, my parts came in for the the transmission filter and I am confused as what GM did while I was there. Apparently they emptied 5 quarts out by dropping the pan and also told me they cant get all 12 total quarts out without flushing the system, is this correct? Also if they took 5 quarts out already why the hell did they not put 5 quarts back in, because I didn't get charged for fluid yet, I have only been charged for parts? Someone help me here, thanks.

Yes that sounds correct you would need a flush to clear all the fluid out. After dropping the pan you still have fluid in your lines, torque converter, and stock cooler. If im thinking correctly the TC holds quite alot of fluid I want to say around 5 quarts or so. If they took oil out they more than likely put it back with oil but could of forgot or something along those lines, maybe they decided not to charge you for the fluid since you had to wait for the filter? And now there trying to press you to get the full system clean and make more money. This would be my guess or something along those lines.
