Default Blackout trim matte or gloss?

I want to black out my chrome trim. Going with the shadowline vinyl, it is offered in gloss and matte. My car is PBM. What will look best?

Matte looks better, glossy vinyl on trim seems cheap

Just out of curiosity, which width is best to order for this job? There's a choice of 3, 4, or 5" wide rolls. Would a single roll of the 4" wide be ideal?

the role is roughly 30 ft long. and when I measured all the trim it seems be be a few feet shy of 30'. I ordered the 4" roll and i'll cut it in half for the bottom trim since that is the thinnest. Then ill use the whole width 4" to do the upper since it is wider and folds on the inside of the door.

Yes, if you can do that bend around the back door in one wide piece, you are better off in the long run. I did mine in two pieces there, you couldn't see it with the door closed, but over time, the rubber seal on the door, from opening and closing the back door, rubs the seam and lifts it. When I did mine, I wasn't aware of the shadowline tape so I used trim tape that wasn't wide enough for that one area.

Mine have held up well for 2+ years but I think I'll redo mine in the Spring with the wider tape.

Excellent, I think I will order the 4" role just to be on the safe side. I was just going to plasti dip the trim but I heard it starts to rub off after a while. Too bad since I have 5 cans of plasti dip waiting to be used for something :P

My 93 silverado is completely plasti dipped an I've had no problems about it rubbing off....if you coat it properly it'll be fine.

Yeah, Ive been running plasti dip on my Grand Prix's hood, wheels, spoiler, and grilles for over a year and haven't had any of it come off yet, but I think the door seals rub on the trim and it starts to come off in this case. I could very well be wrong though..

Got the trim all finished up today. The bottom trim peices were very easy to do and came out flawless with ZERO bubles or creases. As far as the top trim, its much more difficult due to the curves and the folds due to the trim being a right angle. With the doors closed it looks great but when you open the doors my eye is automatically attracted to some of the bubbles and creases that are on the inside. I was hoping I would be able to make it come out perfect and unfortunatly its not. Ive done some vinyl work on some interior peices so this isnt my first rodeo. I'm not impressed with the quality of the vinyl. IMO for an exterior purposed vinyl is too thin and deliciate. At one point I was smoothing it and my finger nail barly caught it and took a small chunk out. If it were thicker like the 3M Di-noc that wouldnt happen. Unfortunatly I havent seen the di-noc sold in the demensions suiting for window trim. Depending on how well it holds up ill remove the trim and paint it.

I'll post pics when its not raining out.
