Sorry if this is old news, but after years of rumors & speculation, thought it was cool to see the official news

Probably close to the price of a GT500? Mid 50's? Sick car for sure but I think I'd rather have a used Z06 Vette? Regardless, can't wait to see em on the road.

Don't much like the new Camaro bodystyle...even less at $50K. Would opt out for a C6 Corvette instead.

To my memory when I grew up in the 90s the "Z28" was always the "port injected V8" ie "not the V6". Then the "SS" ie "Super Sport" came out with a huge motor and big horse. Not sure how the original 60's car was badged.

I wonder why for the new car the SS was just the V8 and now the Z28 is the "special big horse" model?

The 67-69 Z28's were a total performance car,for handling, braking and accelerating, not anything for luxury,No Automatic until 1970, No A/C until 1973 !.Don't be fooled by the rediculous 290 HP rating at 5800 rpm, cause the original road tests when they figured it out were shifting at 7200 rpm ! where it put out prob 425hp at the motor.when jetted and curved with headers went easily mid 12's @107 and that was only the beginning as these would destroy many big block vehicles of the day,Chevrolet even offered optional headers,4 wheel disk brakes and 2 four barrel intakes and gearing if you did not like the standard 3.73 ratio. The SS was a more customer optioned vehicle, where you could order the standard SS that had a 350 cu in. that was exclusive to the Camaro SS in 67,nothing else had a 350 for chevy in 67,to 3 396 engines 325,350,375 HP,only that 375 hp would be close or faster to the Z then. You could order nearly everything on the SS,they even had an ice defroster for the rear tires that squirted a solution through a jet in the rear upper wheelwells on the rear tires when pressing a button on the dash! And the list keeps on going,I wish i was about 30 then !

Mid 12's for 1973 ^^^ ??? Sorry i had a 70 Firebird formula that ran mid 14's with its stock 400 Big Block TH400 combo... I dont know of any 70's camaro whether it was a 350 or 396 that ran anywhere near 12's. Horsepower was overrated in Gross not Net figures in those days and the cars all weighed a ton.

No NO, 67 to 69Z i was reffering to, Just no a/c until '73 stated,I had a 73Z also it was laughable compared to my 69.Anyone lucky to have had a 70 1/2 Z would have no problem w/mid twelves either,of course after headers, dist curved and carb jetted. You're looking at stock numbers,Hell some road tests had a 69Z going 15.2 @96. And to the very few 70 1/2- 396/375 option of wich 201 were made i believe, those were the last of the solid lifter camaro big blocks surely ran those times and more, but with the usual mods.Just as today the real potential is burried in the exhaust and tune etc.Obviously you're a 2nd gen fanatic, and that was one rare bird you had,i guesss that was the 330 horse version you had and not the R/A IV ? Of course we know Pontiac was king in 73-74!

Your all forgetting about the "Mighty Mouse" the 68 & 69 Camaro Z/28's had the option for the DZ302. This motor was a high revving very high horsepower small block created for Trans Am Racing. Chrysler used their Hemi for this same race which they nick named the "Elephant Motor" and after the 302 powered Camaro's began running circles around the "Elephant" the 302 and all small blocks after that were named "Mouse Motors" as the only thing that terrifies an Elephant is...a Mouse. And yes I have all the books and production figures and factory service manuals for nearly every generation of Camaro/Firebird/Trans Am. This year is the only year I havent had a Camaro of some sort in my carriage house

Edit: Also despite popular belief the Z/28 all the way up to the late 4th Gen has always been the highest performing Camaro due to Homologation for the Trans Am racing series

I'm pretty sure that the Trans Am series in the late 60's had a displacement limit of 305ci, that the 302 was the ONLY option in the Z/28, and that Chrysler never raced that series with the HUGE ASS Hemi motor. Those cars handled bad enough without that extra weight out front.
