If we get this we won't miss G6

YOU
are looking at what could become the
Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) Insignia
VXR.
Revealed simultaneously earlier this
month in Germany as the Opel Insignia
OPC and in Britain as the Vauxhall Insignia
VXR ahead of the latter’s global debut at the
Barcelona motor show on May 7, the hottest
version of General Motors’ new mid-sized
European model packs all-wheel drive and a
Holden-built turbocharged V6.
HSV managing director Phil Harding told
GoAuto last December that the company was
negotiating with GM in Europe to import
the hottest versions of both the Insignia and
Corsa, the previous generation of which was
sold here as the Holden Barina.
Now, HSV spokesman Simon Frost has
con
fi rmed that the situation has not changed,
meaning the company still hopes to slot
the Insignia VXR into its range below the
ClubSport at about $55,000. It would be the
second non-V8 model to grace the Holden
hot-shop’s current line-up, alongside the
turbocharged Astra VXR.
“We’re very interested in both the Corsa
and Insignia (VXRs), but the business case
and the price point for the Australian market
needs to stack up,” said Mr Frost.
It is understood the unavailability of base
versions of both the Corsa and Insignia in
Australia is a key hurdle for the prospect of
the Corsa VXR or Insignia VXR being sold
here. However, Holden is now understood
to have plans to import the Vectra-replacing
Insignia, which would be sold alongside the
GM Daewoo-built Epica in its medium-car
stable. If sold here, Holden’s Insignia range
could comprise up to three bodystyles and
six engines, while the HSV version will be
based on the top-shelf 2.8-litre petrol V6-
powered Insignia
fl agship, which is known
as the Sport in Germany and the SRi in the
UK.
The Insignia VXR/OPC adds to this a
twin-scroll turbocharger and fully reworked
exhaust system that increases peak power
to 239kW and maximum torque to some
400Nm. According to Vauxhall and Opel,
which will launch the most powerful
Insignia in the European summer and
autumn respectively, that is enough to propel
the six-speed manual vehicle to 100km/h in
six seconds dead, and on to an electronically
limited top speed of 250km/h.
The hot mid-sizer’s pace comes despite the

fi
tment of an AWD “mechatronic” chassis,
lowered by 10mm compared to the Insignia
AWD Sport/SRi, and also features a modi
fi ed
version of the standard car’s MacPherson
strut front suspension, dubbed HiPerStrut
(for high-performance strut). Comprising
a new front axle developed by the Opel
Performance Center in Russelsheim, it is
said to improve steering feel and precision
while reducing torque steer.
The VXR/OPC version also gains
additions to the standard Insignia’s adaptive
FlexRide suspension, which in this guise
offers standard, sport and an optimum OPC speci
fic damping setting.

I think that would be a good move for GM... something to compete with the sporty copact / mid size cars Like the VW's, Audis, and even some of the Japanese cars.

As what? A Chevy? Who gives a rip? They canceled our car company! So now we're supposed to go running over to the poor redheaded step child, Chevrolet, and suck up to all the cars that would have been Pontiacs? What's with that??????????????????

Wouldn't be hard to insert a Buick grill in there. The grill opening has already got the right general shape.

I love my G8. However had this been available and comparably priced; I probably would go with the turbo awd package... In this trim however this is a high $30k car.

If I wanted a Audi TT looking 4 door or Maxima look alike, I would have bought one... I bought the G8 GT as for under 30K, I got a good ole v-8, family 4-door that can run the snot out of 98% of the cars on the road, and be comfortable doing it...

Not saying that is not a really nice car, but at close to 40k, you have a whole new set of buyers who wont cross shop no matter what you do

08GT MGM Onyx/Red Premium, 18 All Seasons.......

Hmm, I think you may have that backwards. Pontiac was the red-headed stepchild in the GM family. If it were the other way around, Pontiac would not have been shut down, but instead, Chevy would have been.

Besides, even if it were badged as a Chevy, no big deal. We're driving a Commodore badged as a Pontiac. Again, no big deal.

I really think GM Need to just Bring Holden/Opel over to the states. It could spark a moment of americans buying GM cars again. IMO its the only thing that can save the company. We need GOOD ATTRACTIVE cars, people dont want Chevy's or Buicks its just the flat out truth.

No market for those, the captive import thing has been tried endlessly by GM with the same result.

Now that GM is also government owned don't count on many more "imports" when American auto jobs are threatened.

I'll take one of these instead as an Impala SS, that car looks too small to me.
