Newbie Cortex Tune Question

Currently I have Axle Back and Vararam and axle back exhaust. Future mods within the next year include Cam and Headers... Will it benefit me to purchase the Cortex now? and can alter it for Future mods.

I bought the cortex with the same future mods in mind. I plan on selling it and going with a custom dyno time when I get to that point. It is a great product and it will pep your car up noticeably, especially if you go with the 93 tune...

Bottom line is the cortex is not compatible with the more intense mods ex. Cam headers etc

Just making sure I understand this tho, if you set it to the 93 tune, one better make sure you always have access to at least 93 octane gas, right??? I would have set mine at 93, but there's not always 93 octane around.

If you don't have access to 93 just use the 91 tune. Both are leaps and bounds better than 87...

Troy, how much of a difference is there from the 91 to the 93 tune? And are there certain gas station brands that have 93 all the time?

Shell always has 93 for me but it depends throughout the country. I have never tried the 91 tune but from what I've read there is not much difference between it and the 93.

If tuned for 93 and 87 gas is put in, chances of predetonation ("Pinging") is increased, and that's not good for your engine.

FYI There's around a 5 whp difference between 93 and 91 octane tunes.

Always run equal to or higher octane than your tune calls for IMO.

So it sounds like you only have 2 choices then.

87 tune with 87/89/93 octane gas, or 93 tune with 93 octane gas.
