G8 GXP heads back to the dragstrip!

Welp, I decided to go and see what my G8 would do on E85 now. Still on the quest for 11's on bolt ons. I only ran 4 times since I figured it just wasn't going to happen with the D.A not being so favorable at 1,460 ft. Anyway, couldn't get a good launch, but the E85 did show power gains through trap speed. It was haulin at the top. Nothing special, but I'm sure the M6 peeps would wanna see anyway. Who needs an automatic anyway,,right???

Best E.T of the night was 12.03
Best MPH of the night was 117.3
Best 60 of the night was 1.83

First run was with a C3 Stingray with a 383 ci.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkKWF48Mo6E

Second race was with a SRT Challenger.

Third race was with a 2010 GTR. I red lighted this run

Fourth race was with a ZL1

That is quite an accomplishment running neck and neck with the GTR. I will say that 2010 was the worst year to use for drag strip as they severely neutered the launch control that year after the issues with the 2009 MY cars using LC and breaking transmissions. Launch revs went from 3500rpm (right at peak boost) to 2000rpm, which barely made any boost. Their 60' times were horrible that year. They have since improved the transmission internally and raised the LC rpm back up. Still, in a manual car, that's amazing man. Props to you, sir! Looked like it hooked up really nicely off the line. I would never dream of launching my GXP that hard off the line lol

Thanks guys. Im extremely happy with how she performed. Yeah, she didnt quite reach 11s, but she is definitely making power for what she is. What made it even better was the sight of two baby seats in the back seat, and a stroller in the trunk. Lol. A buddy of mine wanted to lend me his skinnies, now i regret not driving 10 minutes to go get em. Haaa.

Very impressive! I have given up trying to match your times with a similar bolt-on set-up. I am putting a cam in over winter. Hell, even with that I probably won't be too much quicker than your current ETs. Way to represent!

Thanks guys. i really do feel it has a little bit more left in her, i just need to find it. Anybody got ideas? I won't do any removal of car parts to lose weight since i bring the family along on track nights, so that's out of the question. i wont do a ported intake manifold and throttlebody since im doing the lsa blower in the near future. Ive thought about doing 3.91s, but with the blower, 3.91s would have a negative effect on traction on the street. The only thing i can think of is running a set of skinnies up front and pray for d.a under 1,400 ft I guess.

I also need to get a little better at my launches.

Copying from the RCR (Rick Crawford Racing) Vararam guys, I've toyed with the idea of a race filter and/or an air plate to shunt air up to the intake. Would take a little red neck engineering but it would probably add a couple HP. Might help you get that last couple .01's.

Try exhaust cutouts, maybe that will put you over the hump. You can also start messing with air pressure in the tires.

How much fuel is in your tank? I would run as little as you feel comfortable with.

What kind of oil are you running? Maybe you can run a thinner grade. You might want to see if you can get a belt that just runs the water pump and alternator and nothing else. That will free up a bunch of HP if you can cut out the accessories.

You can also try different shocks but then you will be affecting ride quality and turning it in to a drag car vs a street/strip.

Thank you. I usually run 3/8 to 1/2 tank of fuel and air my front tires to 40 psi and run my DRs at 18psi for the drivers side and 16.5 psi on the passanger side. Thats the only real track prep that I do. Im a fan of running my car full weight, so weight reduction is out of the question since this is a true street car with baby seats in the rear seat. Ha ha ha. I may however, run a set of skinnies in the front In order to break 11s. Id really like to hit 11s without the skinnies though. Ive made a few changes in my tune, so we may or may not see some new ETs this weekend. Should be fun.

I live SE of Denver and my track - Bandimere isn't open until late April. Real anxious to get out there and see what it will do with the Procharger and 3.90 gears. At 5,800' above sea level the DA is never good. Best runs with old set up was 13.363 seconds. looking for low 12s high 11s now.

what was the 1/8th mile times? i went a [email protected] on a 275/30R20 nitto555 street tire in my old GXP, i couldnt get it to hook at over 4500. that thing should easily bust off some 11.80's in some zero foot air in november or so. bring it down to the lowcountry of sc and make a pass at carolina. we've seen negative 1000 there.
