3.5" tips install

I'll be installing the 3.5" tips on my Solo CB this wknd, along w/ the GXP diffuser.
Since these tips slide over the tailpipe and then you clamp down or weld on, you can determine how much of the tip sticks out of the diffuser or is recessed into the difuser.
What do people feel looks best and then how do you create that look? I was think I need to put tips on, slide back and forth to get the look I like, clamp down and then take whole J-pipe section off and take to shop to get welded into place.
Any better ideas?

Thanks

you could consider having an exhaust shop "tack" it into place where you like it, and skilled welders shouldn't need to remove the rear sections to fully weld the tips where you need them.

Even with tack welding it and having to remove them to fully weld them, they won't be moving from the tack procedure.

Thanks Zep, I think I'll clamp them down to my liking and then drive to a shop and have them add a couple of "tacks" to each tip for strength w/o taking the whole J-pipe off.
