GT's shift different i guess, mine starts cutting out at 6500. i try to shift at 6000-6300 so by the time it shifts it is just short of rev limiter .

Do you have a tune on the car? Are those your stock shift points? I have upgraded springs, though if I didn't I wouldn't rap it to 6.8k. I would think if you upgraded the springs in the v6 you would be able to do about the same.

Yeah 15hp isnt much for 500 bucks. Stock for stock you have higher shift points then the GT's, 6k is stock for them. Yeah i have dual patriot springs.

When I took it to the track I just did sport mode but I kicked myself for not trying shifting manually especially since it could be more fun. On the street when I manually shifted I shifted when it hit 6300 and the rpms drifted up to 6500. I think the only way to find out if there is any benefit is if you did it at the track. The benefit would be more HP once you hit 2nd but not sure if it would be worth the potential HP drop off in 1st. Kinda the same situation with 2nd to third. My car's power is very smooth and constant all the way to the point when it shifts/ I personally feel I could benefit from an extra 100-150 rpms. I would try shifting at 6200-6250 to start. taking it all the way to 6300 it kind feels like it may hit the limiter for just a split second before it shifts into 2nd.

To answer your first question more directly I would try and pay attention to how your car feels to see if it feels like it is dropping off towards the peak of the RPM range. If the power seems smooth and not dropping off take it to the limit. If not there could be some benefit to shifting sooner or leaving it at stock shift points. Thats got to be your gu feeling.

Is there a "how to shift" thread out there? No luck with the search feature.

PS I'm a COMPLETE noob when it comes to shifting, I put 10,000 km on my G8 v6 and NOT ONCE have I dared to shift because I'm afraid I'll damage it. Got used to the car and would like to start having fun shifting!

Having some weirdness in manual mode lately. I was trying to see if shifting earlier would make a difference.

If I go WOT from a standstill in manual and then attempt to shift early, like 5000, it ignores my shift and continues up until it bumps off the rev limiter. Very frustrating.

Weird... I will have to try that. I would imagine it should let you do whatever you want to it. you may need to shift it like a manual. ease off the gas and upshift. not sure.

I haven't taken mine to the track but when I'm out running around and playing, in sport mode mine shifts at 6500. When I go to manual mode, I sometimes bounce off the rev limiter at 6700 before I shift.

I try and shift at around 6500 when I'm in manual unless I'm just not paying much attention and it hits 6700. The car still pulls all the way to 6700. IF we could get a decent tune, I bet it would rev higher without any problems.

My Rides:

'08 Magnetic Gray Metallic Sedan. V6, Sunroof, Comfort and Sound package. Debadged, GT Rear Tail Lights, Tinted windows, 35% rear, 50% front. Royal Purple oil and K&N oil filter. (GONE Lemon Law)

'06 Harley Roadglide.

Crap. Just tried it this morning. Yes it will pull all the way to 65-6700 in manual mode but only 6300 in sport mode. Really annoyed with myself for not trying manual mode at the track now. An extra 400 rpms in first and second might have been worth a 10th of a second or two if the power band was even flat lined from 6300-6650 (But maybe not as well) . Darn!! Definitely have to shift at 6500 to avoid the limiter like you said. I only know of 3 V6 people including myself that have taken theirs to the track. Sounds like knglibrty will have to try this out this Friday if the weather cooperates. I probably have a better shot at taking it back in the spring. Fall looks to be too busy right now.
If I have the open road I will put it in manual mode floor her from a stop all the way till it hits the rev limiter and graph the G's and projected HP on my dynolicous app. That should give us an idea if the HP is still there or is dropping off winding it out that far. On the grafts I have saved the power never stops increasing until it shifts. Might be more in her!!!
