little more respect for my v6

may not seem like a big deal to the v8 guys, but hell my g8 surprised me last night. flying down the interstate late at night i got it going up to 140mph before i got scared and backed off, fastest i've ever driven haha, surprising thing was, i got up to 140mph in 4th gear was at about 4000 rpm, which means i still could have gotten it up to about 7000 rpm, red lined it and STILL have another gear to burn through before she was done..really surprised me especially being that my last two cars we're little 4 cylinders haha in my g6 by the time i got it up to about 115 (which is where the Governor kicked in, in that car) i already burned through all my gears and couldnt give it much more anyway..not to mention the g8 still felt as solid as could be sailing at 140..just a little experience from me

The G8 is an incredibly stable car at triple digit speeds. I love it on the highway.

I did a run the other night closer to 105 though and this car is very stable. It will reach a buck pretty quick too its just hard to find an empty, straight road.....too many curvy back roads around here.

Our G8's V8's included are governed at 138 due to the tire's speed rating on the OEM tires. Unless you have a tune you aint going faster unless I am wrong. But yes our cars are rock solid 100+ They are also very good high speed runners. I have barely got walked on by low 14 second cars during 60-100 mph highway races. I have beaten any V6 mustang I have raced on the highway as well. Where our V6 G8's suck is 15-30 MPH. Its the god awful dead spot that will get you to lose any closely matched race from a dead stop. Its very capable of pulling respectable 60' times (2.24 is my best). If you mod your car its even worse since the torque curve is shifted to the higher rpms (Includes X pipe exhaust mods). However they will generate more peak HP which makes them great from a roll or highway racers.

In my signature I have a link to my best 1/4 mile run. I ran a 15.38 @ 92.49 mph. Its the fastest NA V6 G8 that I am aware of. It gets you killed at the track and its mainly due to that bloody long first gear (50 mph shift into 2nd). I raced a 2009 mustang v6 that same night. He beat me off the line by 2 10th, beat me in the 1/8th mile by another 10th yet I lost the race by less than one 10th because I hauled @$$ in the 2nd 1/8th. Once these babies get moving they are pretty quick.

Yes, I've done it once to 120+ MPH and it fet stable

funny thing, i felt it stable at 100+MPH, more than it was in 60-100MPH range!, or may be it was just me getting used to the feeling and not being scared ... LOL

Remember a GT gets 140 in 4th and they are 6 speeds. I bet the 5 speed V6 has the gear to do it but does it have the power. I think it would be close or close enough.

Not to thread jack, I just wanted to mention this somewhere, and its on the subject of V-6's, so I thought this was good as place as any. I'm thoroughly impressed by what they are doing with the V6's these days. I love V8's, and I love G8's, that's why I was almost embarrassed to find that stock vs stock, the new v6 stangs will beat our GT's. The worst part is, so will the 2013 Honda Accord 3.5L Coupe. Luckily, i'm thoroughly modded and don't have to worry, but still, it bothers me lol. Ok, enough will the rambling, I just wanted to put that out there and see if it bugged anyone else.

And just to clarify, by "beat our G8 Gt's", I meant in the 1/4 mile. Also, I wasn't hating on G8's, I own one and love it. I was just more bummed that a dag gum V6 accord will run with, and beat, a G8 GT.

Huh? Those cars are low-mid 14 second cars. Not beating any gt, stock or even missing a cylinder.

Maybe it was a bad driver, but I saw it with my own eyes at my local drag strip. Also, I just read a Motor Trend article, the accord is around 13.8's. About right where the GT is depending on what altitude your running it at. So I guess it comes down to driver. But regardless of the winner, that's entirley too close for comfort. Again, i'm not trying to hate on the G8, I was just stunned.

If it gets 140 at 4k rpm in 4th gear, then wouldnt it be capable of hitting like 170 in 5th by the time its at its highest rpm. Personally don't see that happening
