Torn right now between spending $800 for a Solo catback or half that for a set of Doug Thorley shorty headers. I'm leaning toward headers right now and having flanges welded on to mate with the stock cats. This would give me a path to add solo cats and a full catback later.

Shorty headers will do very little to benefit you. Stock g8 headers flow pretty well actually it's the cats where all the restriction is.

I dont disagree with that. However if I was chasing HP is just trade up to a GT. I'm after a refined sound.

That sound. So beautiful...

Yeah, shortys are a good alternative. I'd love to run LTs but GOOD LUCK FINDING SOMEONE WHO CAN DO A TUNE...

So all you did was delete the resonators and mid muffler and add the x-pipe? Sounds damn good.

Thanks Guys!

For a grand total of $500 it is the best bang for the buck intake/exhaust combination and gives me what I want. This is my DD and I average anywhere from an hour and a half to two hours a day I495 so drone is a no-go. The stock cans soak that drone up but when you really get on it they let that sweet sound through.

Is this setup loud enough for most enthusiasts? Probably not. But that's whats great about modding. Finding what is right for you.

That sounds great.

I should definitely look into doing the mid-muffler and resonator delete and getting an X-pipe.

I was thinking of upgrading to the Solo catback exhaust from the V6 axlebacks, but after hearing this maybe I will just do the X-pipe

Those Solo's are gonna drone like crazy if you remove the mid-muffler and resonators and replace them with an x-pipe. You might talk with Solo about getting J-pipes added to help. It'll be loud as hell. I'd love to hear it.

Thanks for the heads up Dennis. If I keep the Solo axlebacks on maybe I should just remove the mid-muffler and put the X-pipe there. I will have to do some more research.

But you have the full cat back with j-pipes. That makes all the difference.

Yup, with 10 kids (4 still home) I don't have a lot of mod money. $200 vs. $800 was really no contest for me. Would I like to have a full cat-back? Absolutely!!! Rich's car sounds awesome. This modder just doesn't have the option. I'm happy to have found something cheap that sounds good.
