Which CAI Works Best ?

I am looking at purchasing a Cold Air Intake (CAI) but donít know which one I should get. Iím interested in the Vararam http://www.vararam.com/g8.html but don't really know too much about the company. The stats for it look great. The other is the Volant CAI http://www.pfyc.com/pc/G83012/G8UNDER/Volant+Cool+Air+Intake+-+08-09+G8+GT+415960.html. Both are in the same price range. Any other suggestions?

One of the most commonly repeated topics on this board.

It is really a matter of preference.

Some people go with Volant to keep a stock look ( I am guessing they think they are fooling GM service department, I dont know)

Some go with Vararam because of its tested and reported performance gains.
RotoFab seems to be very popular.
NEP CAI
and NEP OTR CAI
SLP makes one
K&N makes one
AFE makes two types (paper and oiled filter)

There are more but you get the point.

I would be they are all within a few HP of each other.

I've had both.
Volant = more quality
Vararam = more performance
the choice is yours.

I'm happy with the Volant, it's a nice looking quality product, and the dealer doesn't hassle me about it. Plus it has a dry filter so there's no chance of oil contaminating the MAF sensor.

It is a dry filter, but can be changed out to a K&N oil air filter. I never had any problems with my huge Donaldson oil based air filter on my Vette...and I don't anticipate any problem with oil going up the tube to the MAF with this setup if I go to an oil based K&N filter, either.

Stupid question, but do any of these CAI have a water bypass on them? I had one on my VR4, just helps with your piece of mind.

You don't have to worry about water getting in with the Volant, it's a sealed box.

How about the Vararam, that draws right in front of radiator. Not good on a rainy day.
