Things you didnt know about your g8..

ok over on the Gto forum when i had my 04 there was a good thread about things people discovered on the gto's...

I would like you know if there is little neat things or hidden things about the g8's

So far
Turning up the amp in the trunk (same way as the gto)

engineering mode is something else the gto had also..

Anything else people?

TrUcKeR

So here's a tally, cut and pasted by yours truly, of the tips/tricks/facts posted in this thread. Maybe the OP can edit their first post to include the list?

1. Use the separate bass & treble controls instead of the EQ settings for better sound quality.
2. If you run WOT in Sport mode up to a corner, the trans will hold that gear through the corner.
3. You don't need to hold the key to start while it's cranking over.
4. Can turn off the car after a remote start by pressing the start button on the key fob again.
5. There's no trans dipstick.
6. There's no spare tire on the GT and GXP.
7. There's a plastic hook on the underside of the trunk lid to hold the lanyard for the spare tire well cover.
8. The battery is in the trunk but there are "jump posts" under the hood on the driverside.
9. There's no lock cylinder for the trunk. You have to use the key fob, button in glovebox or the manual release just inside the rear seat pass-through.
10. The oil pan holds 8.8 qts of oil.
11. The driver's door is the only one with an external lock cylinder.
12. Some of the buttons on the stereo/HVAC system are not on the correct side. This is because they weren't switched on the unit and are positioned for right-side Aussie drivers.
13. The stock wheels are made by Enkei.
14. You can run in “Stealth Mode” by pressing the panel brightness buttons at the same time. Exterior lights remain on, but interior lights are limited to DIC & Speedo.
15. Your turn signal will blink 3 times automatically if you try to do a single-flash lane change.
16. Hold down the DIC menu button and turn the key to accessory. The car will enter "Service Mode", which lets you view and clear codes. However, you must turn the key off before starting the car. Otherwise, the Service Reset display does not clear.
17. Rear side marker lights are LEDs.
18. Fuel tank has two fuel pumps. Fuel tank straddles the rear diff/driveshaft, creating a saddle bag type of design. One fuel pump is the main, supplying the engine, the other is a jet pump that moves fuel from one side to the other.
19. Windshield is a double compound curve. The top of the windshield curves slightly sharper near the top. You can feel this when washing the windshield.
20. If you press and hold in the recirculation button on the HVAC control you will put it into pollution mode.
21. The radio can be turned on without the key in the ignition.
22. The gas cap locks and unlocks with the car doors.
23. In manual mode, the transmission starts-out in 2nd gear by default.
24. The 12v power slots will not provide power when the car is off. This means that you will not be able to charge your phone unless the key is turned to ACC or the engine is running.
25. The G8's have break away pedals. If you are in a front end collision and jamming on the brake pedal, it will break away preventing your knee/leg from absorbing all the impact.
26. The horn sounds really lame from inside the car.
27. If you get in the car after your alarm has gone off, the DIC will show the alarm had been set off and where it occurred.
28. The seat warmers automatically turn off when you shut the car off.
29. The little hook on the inside of the fuel door is to keep the gas cap off your paint.
30. The horn sounds four times when you try to lock the doors when they aren't all closed properly.
31. There is a pen holder and paper clip built into the glove box.
32. The passenger seat has rubber stoppers built into the sliders, preventing it from sliding back as far as the driver seat. You can remove them by pulling the seat out and drilling out the rivets that attach them.
33. When you turn the wipers on during the day, your headlights will automatically change from DRL to full-on.
34. You can mute the radio by pressing the volume dial on the steering wheel.
35. You can increase the power of the speaker amp by turning the knob on the underside of it. This amp is located in front of the battery in the trunk.
36. You can increase/decrease your cruise-control speed in 1mph increments by ‘bumping’ the set/resume knob however many times you want to increase/decrease your speed. (i.e. 5 bumps is 5mph of adjustment)
37. The radio not only keeps track of different equalizer settings for different sources (i.e. CD, front AUX), but also stores the previous volume level.
38. You can hit the Cruise Power button once and it cancels the cruise without shutting it off (like tapping the brake pedal). Then you can resume to your pre-set if needed. Pressing the button twice, however, will turn it off completely.
39. The enter button (left scroll wheel) when pushed will change discs when playing a CD. And if you scroll that scroll wheel, it will advance the tracks on the CD that is playing.
40. The side mirrors fold in (manually) for automatic car washes.
41. The rubber ducky antenna should be unscrewed before going through a car wash, or before covering the car for storage. (The 2009's cubby is designed to hold the antenna)
42. When you put your key in the driver side door, you can unlock all the doors on the car by holding the key in the unlock position.
43. The key can't be removed from the ignition if the battery goes dead.
44. Some CD's and all MP-3's burned to CD have song information available by pressing the passenger side button on the bottom of the radio screen.
45. The G8 has more interior space than any other regular-production 4-door sedan.
46. You can load CD's into the radio with the car completely turned off.
47. There is a 30-second Event Data Recorder in the event of an accident.
48. The engine will not remote-start with the hood up. If the car is running (via remote-start) when you pull the hood latch, the engine will shut off.
49. You can reach all 8 spark plugs without the help of a midget with baby hands.
50. That whooshing sound you hear when driving is the sound of panties dropping on every woman you pass.
51. With the front windows up, and the rear windows down, the G8 turns into an Apache AH-64 Helicopter.

If you press the + & - buttons together for the dimness of the gauges you put the car into "stealth" mode which turns the radio screen off and everything else except for the tach and MPH.

I guess this maybe a Sirius/XM, but I just recently realized that after hitting the track button to search for a category of music, the disc button will find other channels in that same category.

I'm sure everyone has seen them, but the pen holder in the glove box, and pen holder and paper/registration holder in the center console is a nice touch.

Quickly hitting the turn signal stem will flash the directional 4 times or so... just enough to change lanes.

Apparently the 2009.5 sunroof motors require you to hold in the button for open, but the previous motors had express open? This one irritates me.

You seriously need almost 9 quarts of oil for this thing? That must mean a $100 oil change with filter and synthetic, right?

Close enough to make it painful.

Yes, but I don't think it needs to be changed all the frequently. I'm at 85% at 1,500 miles. Mine may not need a change for 10,000 miles at this rate.

You only need to bump the starter to start the car. The starter will disengage when the engine starts.

Better yet, hold the button in, rotate it to the desired position and let go. The roof won't move until you push and release the button again. That's on a 2008 GT.

Here's one I haven't seen posted...

If you hold down the button that looks like a road (selector?) and turn the key to accessory the car goes into "Service Mode". It let's you view and clear codes and is different from "Engineering Mode".

Yea, I just tried it, and it is so. However, you must turn the key off before starting the car. Otherwise, the Service Reset display does not clear, even when pressing the button again, unlike Engineering mode, which will clear just by pushing the left scroll button again.

I also noticed today, that AFM will activate much sooner than I thought. I went to get coffee this morning, while in Engineering mode, monitoring AFM. Just started the car, after sitting over night. Coolant temp was 42c. Pulled out of the driveway and headed down the road. AFM activated in less than 1/4 mile and stayed on until I slowed down to about 20mph to make a turn.

And this: We all know that Retained Accessory Power keeps power to things like the radio and windows after you shut off the car and turns off when you open the driver's door. Did you know that during RAP, opening the passenger's door will kill power to the 12v power outlet?

Rear side marker lights are LEDs.

Fuel tank had two fuel pumps. Fuel tank straddles the rear diff/driveshaft, creating a saddle bag type of design. One fuel pump is the main, supplying the engine, the other is a jet pump that moves fuel from one side to the other.

Why would you want to clear any service codes? If you take it to the dealer they won't know what the codes are so they can repair your car.
