Can I use 245/50/18 in place of 245/45/18 tires?

I have good pair of the 50 series stored in the basement and at least two tires on the car need replacement. Any issues using the taller rubber, and if not, should they go on the front or rear?

The difference in diameter between the 245/50/18 and 245/45/18 is less than one inch so they will work on either the front or rear of the vehicle. However, recommend putting the larger tires on the rear .

That's what I thought. Put them side by side and it's less than half an inch taller or 1/4 inch on the wheel.
