Transmission Fluid differences

I know I know before I get yelled at for not searching but I did search and I can’t find the answer I’m looking for so basically there are two different Dexron IV versions Part number 88865601 dexron IV 10-9394 and part number 88861037 Dexron IV 10-9243. I am ready to do a transmission fluid change with my Camaro trans pan I haven’t bought fluid yet because I’m confused what do you guys recommend

I believe those simply reference the packaging. You'll notice a few different numbers. Two of them are Quart Size with different bottle designs, and another is a 5qt size (10-9395 and not listed here).

What is important is the Dexron VI chemical name. Castrol's Dexron VI fluid is a good choice as well.

You can search for a list of approved licenses on google. That license will be present on the bottle. It is a J# with 5 digits. For example, J-60318 is one particular license number.....

You're right; I overlooked that.

In all honesty, ATF fluids are designed to last a very long time whether they are blends or full synthetics. If you want to maximize that life then go with the Full Synthetic.

I used Castrol's Dex VI and it is a blend; I've no qualms with that at all.

I want to say that are transmission takes synthetic oil. I would not recommend using anything other then that. For one if you just drop your pan there will still be half the fluid inside the trans.
And if you saw a VI(6) series trans fluid listed as not synthetic I'd stay away from that brand. Series VI trans oil is supposed to be only a synthetic oil.
At least that's what I remember when looking into doing trans changes on mine and a friend's 30k ago.
I had bought mine from dealer as they were cheaper then local auto store. But that was 3 years ago.

To carry Dexron VI as a label it has to be a Blend or Better.

For Castrol to carry the label of Dexron VI on their Transmission Oil, it means they're using an approved blend according to the license.
