I'm about to pull the trigger on the CTS-V Brembo upgrade. (4 pots)
It's going to be a DIY job ..... 1st time in my life doing a brake job.
I was looking at youtube vid's on brake jobs ....looks simple enough.
I have spent days, and hours doing research, and I think I got it down packed. Buying all parts from Amazon & Brake Performance.
I also found a caliper package on eBay, but Amazon totaled up, cheaper.
Here is my checklist:
FRONT:
2004-2007 CTS-V Brembo calipers: 172-2287, 172-2288
2004-2007 CTS-V Brembo pads
pin hardware: 18k1971x
Russel bleeders: RUS639560 (2 pairs)
bolt to mount caliper: 1151 5778 (4 times)
2011-2013 Camaro SS front rotors
BACK:
2004-2007 CTS-V Brembo calipers: 172-2309, 172-2308
2004-2007 CTS-V Brembo pads
pin hardware: 18k1970x
Russel bleeders: RUS639560 (2 pairs)
bolt to mount caliper: 1151 5778 (4 times)
2015 Chevrolet SS rear rotors
Russel stainless steel brake lines (I already have them)
PLEASE..... let me know if I forgot something ....
I also just bought a set of Camaro SS 20's rims.
Will the Camaro SS lug nuts work for my G8?
bolt to mount caliper: 11515778 (4 times) - GM #92139080 (same part but with vibraloc preinstalled)
2011-2013 Camaro SS front rotors - can be sourced anywhere online from many different manufacturers
BACK:
2004-2007 CTS-V Brembo calipers: 172-2309, 172-2308 - Cadillac CTS-V 2nd Generation rear calipers (same as V1 except for the added notches near the mounting holes which is highly recommended) go for $166.17 (Rear Left/Driver Side of the CTS-V - 172-2486) and $149.77 (Rear Right/Passenger Side of the CTS-V - 172-2513) each!
bolt to mount caliper: 11515778 (4 times) - GM #92139080 (same part but with vibraloc preinstalled)
2015 Chevrolet SS rear rotors - CENTRIC 12162147 C-Tek Standard and CENTRIC 12062147 Premium 2015-2016 Chevy SS rear rotors [for Brembos] are back in stock and at some reasonable prices (!): $42.79 and $54.79 each, respectively, at RockAuto. Stock up now!
Camaro calipers at one point were ~$60 for the rear Brembos. They are the correct side-specific calipers and require no swapping of the bleeders and crossover tube and they have the notches. However, they would require painting and are quite expensive these days ($200+).
The V1 and V2 calipers have come down in price and their silver paint is identical to the GXP silver paint. V1s don't have the notches but the V2s do. Both will require swapping the bleeders and crossover tubes on a G8.
Stay away from the Ferodo pads unless you like dust. Lots of dust. So much so that your wheels are perpetually black and brown even when they are supposed to be some other color.
more info....
my car a daily driver
I go to the track to do 1/4 mile 4 times a season (but I do about 15 passes)
track maybe once or twice a season
and I'm going to be getting slotted and drilled rotors
I just did all four with ss rotors and your criteria matches what I had in mind. I picked the hawk HPS pads all around. They dust way less than the stock brembo pads with what I feel is more bite compared to a 2012 ss I drove with stock pads.
Yanni!! I will miss out on the OGOC meet this year so enjoy that mod brother. I picked up 4 2015 SS Brakemotive drilled and slotted rotors plus CTS V calipers and got the duty free exemption for them. On the way back through I will get the Russell Brake lines and bleeders plus hardware.
Sub'd...
I priced out V2 (2009-2014) brakes on my CTS and they were crazy expensive even with my employee pricing. The V1 calipers I priced are way more reasonable. Either way I plan on painting the calipers.
What is the difference between the gen1 vs gen2 .... rear CTS-V caplipers
this is what GXP25 said: Cadillac CTS-V 2nd Generation rear calipers (same as V1 except for the added notches near the mounting holes which is highly recommended)
the added notches are for what ? ..... is it for adding a new dust shield, or another reason?
There is over a $100 difference in price. If its only for the dust shield, I rather go with the Gen1, and trim the existing dust shield.
please let me know, I need to order very soon .....
thanks.
If you go with 4 piston CTSV front brembos and 2013 Camaro SS rear calipers(believe they are all same) and you order from Brake Performance:
Drilled and slotted zinc plated rotors #’s 62124 and 62147
Premium ceramic pads #’s 10010 and 10530
Ask them to reference order 234039
You have done your homework and the wheels you have will clear the calipers, correct?
I was just wondering if anyone happens to know if the Calipers Listed both Above and Below, will fit both a "V8 Pontiac G8" as wll as a "V8 Chevy Caprice PPV" without any problems, as i am thinking of going down the rabbit hole and start looking into a Brake Caliper Upgrade but i am trying to find out if i can purchase the same Brake Calipers for both a "V8 Pontiac G8" and "V8 Chevy Caprice PPV"?
As it would be ever better if i can fit the same Brake Calipers to both the "V8 Pontiac G8" and a "V8 Chevy Caprice PPV", so i can both save a little bit on the cost of shipping by purchasing the same Brake Calipers as well as by making the job a bit easier by simply repeating the same process on the other car once the first has its Brake Calipers fitted?
