New member with a possible stupid question

So I'm pretty new here and new to the G8 base model that I recently bought. Looking back, knowing what I know now, I should have bought a GT. Oh well, maybe next time!

Anyways, I was curious...as to the body, are the parts interchangeable with the GT and GXP, such as the rear tail lights, etc? I'm assuming they are?

Also... what would you have to change if you wanted to drop a 6.0 into a base model? Would it be cheaper to just buy a GT?

My apologies in advance for the rather nutty questions. Thanks!

Most if not all the body parts are interchangeable. Having done Engine swaps before my advise is to buy the GT
StarCruiser, tchr49 and BAS G8 like this.

It's easier just to get a GT.. A V8 swap depends on how much the parts run you, are you doing your own labor, etc.. Easiest way to swap it is to find a wrecked GT donor car.. there's other ways of course too.
StarCruiser and tchr49 like this.

Part are interchangeable but are not always the identical

e.g. Different tail lights on base from GT. Rear diffuser on GXP, etc.

A bit of elaboration on S.STEVE's ,"Different tail lights on base from GT" may be useful for you to know. The difference is the color of the lenses btwn the BASE G8 and those on the GT/GXPs. The BASE has a bright red overall appearance; the GT/GXP has a predominant black appearance. There is a history in this forum of some members owning red GT/GXPs wanting to swap their lenses with those with the BASE ones; color match to their red cars.

Thanks carpool! Good info to know. That's actually why I was asking. I prefer the darker ones compared to my base model ones.

One more question...how do you quote someone in your reply and also how do you edit? I accidentally put carpool instead of carpoor.

I do everything on my phone and those don't show like they normally would.

Edit: I just switched off the mobile version and all is good.

Yeah that mobile version is confusing and not so user friendly!

The GT/GXP tails are actually clear lensed with a black inside and a chrome ring around the tail light.

If you're looking for more power I would recommend maybe upgrading to an LS3 built engine. You can find some good deals on built Long Blocks, if you source everything right you can be under 10K with parts, labor and tuning.

A built NA LS3 can easily yield around 500rwhp.

I dropped a valve on my 14 SS and had to replace the engine and I came in with under $10K with Scog and Dickey Short block, head work, cam and labor.
