  1. Balancer Friction Washer

    V8 Engine Tech (L76/LS3)
Have you noticed a difference in the way the engine feels as it goes through the RPM ranges. I've thought about the Fluidamper when i do my cam change
  2. Oil Filter ground clearance....

    V8 Engine Tech (L76/LS3)
I use the longer PF63 of Mobil M1 212. Yes it is a bit below the pan But safely behind the front cross member. I'm not worried it can be hit. More filter media to hold more. Not worried about clogging, its the bypass and unfiltered oil. Like an air filter, bigger is better
  3. I probably misunderstood a post another board. valves open up more with afm on???

    V8 Engine Tech (L76/LS3)
Engines are always months older than the car .No G8's we produced with the newer AFM lifter or or VLOM
  4. I probably misunderstood a post another board. valves open up more with afm on???

    V8 Engine Tech (L76/LS3)
About time we added to this thread. I was reading on the Melling web site about AFM lifter failures. The lifter is not usually the cause. It is 2 other items. the VLOM under the intake and the #2 cam bearing wear. When the PCM decides to go into 4 cyl mode , it does each of the cylinders when...
  5. Do these cars handle a SCT tuning handheld

    PCM Tuning / Dyno Results
I've been using the SCT X4 for over a year now. More adjustments and accepts headers that superchips won't. IF you keep on modding you can buy their computer software and fully tune your car. The hand held can store multiple tunes and you can use the hand held to switch between tunes. Best of...
  6. Official VCM OTR install thread

    Intake/Fuel Tech
And the Intake is made better than EVER. I just received the 2 piece series 2 model. I bought my first one on the original group buy ages ago. It finally kinked at the bottom of the MAF opening. Mine was too old for warranty, but they sold me the new housing for $200. I know what I'm doing...
  7. Need advice on Front Stabilizer bar/bushings.

    Suspension / Brakes
Are you replacing the stock bar or just replacing the bushings? If it is just bushings then any brand will do. Whiteline or BMR. You will find they have limited effect. Yes , driving around the car will stay flatter. When you crank it hard into an off ramp the bushings will hold but the bar...
  8. Factory Exhaust - Explained

    Exhaust Tech
  9. I need to do a cam. Please help!

    V8 Engine Tech (L76/LS3)
The GM part # for LS3 springs is 12499224. Depending on the inventory they can be blue or yellow and any dealer of LS based online store sells them. Summit racing is $78.20 a set. Amazon same price. As for an LS3 cam,#12623063. Why go used when GMPD sells them for $126.48
  10. PCV & Oil Consumption

    V8 Engine Tech (L76/LS3)
If you have deleted the AFM, then the original pump is overkill. LS3 does not use the L76 high volume pump. As long as you plug that relief valve your troubles of oil in the intake will be reduced
  11. PCV & Oil Consumption

    V8 Engine Tech (L76/LS3)
Improved Racing sells the plug to replace the relief valve. If you have gone to a standard volume high pressure pump it is down right dangerous to leave that relief valve in. You put that black plug in the pan and you won't be loosing oil pressure internally and having extra oil vapour sucked...
  12. Painting my calipers... what about the brackets?

    Appearance / Detailing
Red calipers are Good. A good choice is to match the caliper bracket to the colour of the centre hub. Silver or black and the 2 popular choices there .If black it should be semi gloss or Flat.
  13. Finally, decent wiper blades

I have gotten so tired of non-original wiper blades. Big, ugly adapters and the added noise they make. Went and paid the extra and got the Canadian Tire Reflex Perfect Fit pair of wiper blades . They come out of the box ready to install. No adapters. They click in place like the original ones...
  14. Low RPM surge 200 miles after cam swap.

    V8 Engine Tech (L76/LS3)
You cleaned the MAF, but not the throttle body. If you have not leaks and the throttle body is sticking at near closed. that will make it surge
  15. PCV & Oil Consumption

    V8 Engine Tech (L76/LS3)
The LSA needs a flat valley cover to fit the blower. You can take the PCV from where ever you want. It doesn't matter. I would want to limit the number of hoses at the front of the engine near that blower belt.
  16. PCV & Oil Consumption

    V8 Engine Tech (L76/LS3)
Non AFM engines don't have the extra relief valve, they block it .The main oil pressure relief valve is in the oil pump. GM came up with the diverter for the AFM relief valve because of complaints of excess oil consumption. Ding ding ding. Don't waste your time blocking the bosses, the new...
  17. 2009 G8 GT - Sport Red - 110k miles

    Cars for Sale
If it is not the ignition on cylinder #6 , then I would be suspecting the cam lobe. Use the mechanics stethoscope , A long screw driver. Tip on the engine and handle up to your ear. See if any more noise from #6 valves
  18. Strut mount bushings collapsed again?

    Suspension / Brakes
Those bearing are made to come apart. Clean them and re-grease them and they snap back together. If you didn't loose any of the ball bearings.
  19. PCV & Oil Consumption

    V8 Engine Tech (L76/LS3)
Did you remove and block off the AFM relief valve on the Oil pan? It sprays oil into the crank area. GM had a diverter cover for it to direct the oil back to the pan. I would block off the PCV on the valley cover and use the one in the rocker cover. Look and see if trhe rocker cover one is...
  20. SS sedan eibach springs work?

    Suspension / Brakes
The SS uses the same upper spring seat as the G8. Now the SS has a higher ride height than the G8 . A lowering spring for the SS will give very little drop for a G8. Just buy the right springs.
