  1. Ahhh Push Rods BTR Cam

    V8 Engine Tech (L76/LS3)
It's actually a bit of the reverse. Often a more aggressive cam will have a small base circle in order to achieve the desired characteristics. Therefore you need a longer pushrod to make up for it. But yeah, in the end... measure, measure, measure. Every setup is different.
  2. Ahhh Push Rods BTR Cam

    V8 Engine Tech (L76/LS3)
Just some added info. I was running 7.400 with LS7 lifters. Swapped to Johnson 2110's, and my machinist still spec'd 7.400. The Johnson's only call for .035" of preload, but they're 0.45" taller (or so the internet says), so end result is similar to running LS7 lifters.
  3. Input on Low Oil Pressure / P0521 FML CELs

    V8 Engine Tech (L76/LS3)
Well, good thing you installed one. :D Sounds like it's good to go for now.
  4. Fresh Engine - What Oil to Use?

    V8 Engine Tech (L76/LS3)
That's the exact oil I was looking at that made me start thinking to use it versus the Rotella. My BR30 break in oil just showed up
  5. Fresh Engine - What Oil to Use?

    V8 Engine Tech (L76/LS3)
Yeah, I've read most of the threads on here, and started 1 of my own many moons ago. But most of those threads deal with factory fresh engines, or engines that are climbing in mileage, which is why I originally switched the the Rotella 5w-40. I agree, it's splitting hairs at this point, but...
  6. Steam Vents

    V8 Engine Tech (L76/LS3)
Yeah, I'm aware of why they're there, and that the LS3/L92 heads are they only ones that have the little rivets blocking the rear ports. Which is a little silly to me given there are the little block off plates there from the factory. The post was more of a... I hope I'm not missing the 1% of...
  7. Fresh Engine - What Oil to Use?

    V8 Engine Tech (L76/LS3)
Should finally have my engine back next week. The only stock/reused part will be the crank. Previous to the rebuild I was running Mobil1 5w-30 until a year ago when I did DOD-delete and switched to Rotella T6 5w-40. I already ordered some driven Driven BR30 break in oil to run at first, but I...
  8. Just got my G8 GT!!

    Newbie/Introduction Forum
Congrats. Hard to go wrong with a set of solo axle backs. If you're going to get a custom tune, get an intake as well. VCM is typically the best and looks really nice with the infill panels.
  9. Advice needed!

    V8 Engine Tech (L76/LS3)
No problem. It's easy to over look the simple things. I'll be in the same boat in the next week or so putting the engine back in my car. Haha

    V8 Engine Tech (L76/LS3)
Guessing you have the spark plugs installed. Pull them out, and you won't be fighting compression as you try to turn the engine by hand.
  11. Roto Fab Tune Download?

    G8 GT Talk (V8)
Oh, interesting. I sold my Cortex about a year ago, and the software was still working at that point.
  12. G8 GT rotofab intake problems

    Forum Rules/Guidelines/FAQ
Where is it coming apart? From the pic, the clamp on the downstream side of the MAF doesn't look like it's actually clamped to the MAF housing. Looks like it's just pinching the rubber. Hard to tell from the angle though.
  13. Roto Fab Tune Download?

    G8 GT Talk (V8)
You can download the Cortex software (called Spark) to your computer, then purchase the tunes through there. They're like $2.99 a piece. You'll need said software and a USB cable in order to get the tune files onto the Cortex.
  14. Advice needed!

    V8 Engine Tech (L76/LS3)
What's hard to turn? The rocker arm bolts, or turning the engine over in order to tighten the rocker arms.
  15. Input on Low Oil Pressure / P0521 FML CELs

    V8 Engine Tech (L76/LS3)
It's possible the screen is missing, but you'll have to get it out with a small pick. You'd be lucky to even touch the top of it with your finger. To confirm it's missing or not, you could try to put the new one in. If it won't go, then there's one in there and you need to get it out. If it...

    Community Help
If it hasn't come up yet... the threaded "conversations" are very nice. The old inbox was cumbersome.
  17. Base tune after cam swap

    V8 Engine Tech (L76/LS3)
Someone may chime in and lend you a hand, which would be cool. If you're looking for a remote tune, and since you already have HPTuners, I'd suggest Day Tuning: https://www.facebook.com/DAYTUNED/.

Ouch! Haha Where are you located?
  19. ZL1 and SS differentials Full G8 rear subframe

    Parts for Sale
Wow. I'm sure that was quite a bit of work, but those zl1 diffs are supposed to be pretty stout. I'm interested in the Camaro diff. Can you let me know what shipping to 21771 would be? Thanks.
  20. What X-Pipe should I use to replace my mid muffler?

    Exhaust Tech
You'll pretty much have to weld. Any x-pipe you get is going to be significantly shorter than the stock mid muffler, and you're going to end up with 4 or more slip joints that are likely to leak. Any half decent muffler shop should be able to knock it out cheap and quick. Anything from...
