Aerpro V2 w/ Kenwood steering controls

For those with a Kenwood head unit and the Aerpro kit, can you please clarify on what Aerpro wants me to do in order to get steering wheel control to work on my head unit?
I can't use the 3.5mm jack that it comes with and need to wire up the "Key 1" wire to something and cut two other wires.

My understanding of the diagram is to clip the orange and green wires on the 12 pin patch cable and connect the steering wheel remote wire from the head unit harness top the Key 1 bullet connector.
If I feel a big froggy, I'll go ahead and do that and update here, but until then, if you know better than me, let me know.

Update:
Got it.
It was exactly as I was thinking and as was indicated in the diagram. I included pics as well for anybody that might be as gun-shy as I was to cut wires in a $400 harness.

Blue "Remote Control" wire from Kenwood harness connects to "Key 1" connector on Aerpro
The back of the harness has the wires that say need to be cut in a loop already in expectation to be cut
Clipped the orange and green
Connected unit and steering wheel volume control works

Overall, fantastic install and overall quality so far.

Thank you for this. Just stumbled upon this set up from aeropro and would love an aftermarket unit for better clarity. Definitely on the list of things to do down the road.

Does your afr gauge cubby mount no longer fit? I have the same set up and was going to upgrade my radio too

It doesn't fit anymore, unfortunately. I'll have to 3D print up something to fit. The Aerpro kit sits about an inch lower and uses the bottom edge as a support. Basically, where you could previously fit a hand in to pull the OEM faceplate off, is filled in now.

Absolutely the way to go. It really woke up the entire system and the modern features sure don't hurt either. If you grab one and need some pointers, hit me up. I was patient and got mine from G8Only when they restocked, so I didn't have to worry about a Celsius vs Fahrenheit problem or any goofy shipping issues.

I know I keep reviving this, but since it was brought up by @Rmartin22317 , this is how I was able to re-mount my AFR gauge, since the new fascia hangs down about an inch lower.
I found this file and printed it at 75% height in PETG and used double sided tape to hold it to the bottom of the fascia, flush with the rest of the unit. Now I have my pocket back and a mount for my AFR.

Hey there, I'm glad you were able to get your Kenwood steering controls to work. I recently bought this kit and installed an Alpine ILX 507 unit but I have no steering wheel control. Do you think you might be able to help walk me through that process?

If you bought the Alpine setup, you should be able to use the 3.5mm "headphone" style jack and connect to the back of the radio, then cut just the green loop on the 12 pin harness (where the black connector goes into the Aerpro board). If you look close to the end of the connector, where it goes into the board, you'll see 3 small loops of wire. Green, Orange, and Purple. Going off of the Aerpro diagram, you'd only need to clip the green one and connect the 3.5mm plug.

That's what I assumed after a little more investigation. Appreciate the feedback! I'll try and get it working this evening.

She's all buttoned up and everything is working. Super happy with it. Clean look and really modernized her. Went with the wireless charger in the cubby under the AC too.

Looks great. Glad you got it sorted out. I didn't get a cubby b/c i was hoping my existing pod would work, but forgot it used the OEM radio as part of the mount and interfered with the bottom of the Aerpro. So that's why I had to make my own.

Thanks again for the help! I actually almost put a gauge in that spot too but ended up going with the Ortiz customs up top. The finish on them was pretty sub par so ended up wrapping them, the pillars, and the headliner in suede lol Now she fancy.

I got the head unit only.
Im assuming you're talking about the Maestro interface or whatever they call it now. I did not. I read up on it and from what I can tell is that, yeah it can tell you gauges, etc, but it was mainly for cars that have infotainment that shows TPMS, dash warning lights, stuff like that. Since all of that is on my dash screen and not radio in the G8, I didn't bother.
I'm sure it'd be a neat add-on, but not sure how much functionality we'd get out of it or if it would conflicty with anything.
