Ok so I have done some searching but didn’t find any answers. My car every once in a while turns the stabilitrak off and you can’t turn it back on until you turn the car off and restart and it might not do it again for a week or two. Now the car has started activating the stability assistance when going around a curve to the right and it scares the crap out of me, has done it at slow speeds and high speeds. First time it happened I thought maybe I hit a piece of gravel or something and maybe a tire spun a little but that apparently isn’t the case. Anyway I don’t have any check engine lights or anything but I finally put a scanner on it the other day and pulled the C0186 code which is Lateral Accelerometer sensor malfunction. So has anybody replaced the sensor or should I be looing at something else?

The lateral accelerometer is used by the electronic brake control module (ebcm) to determine the sideways acceleration of the vehicle. The yaw rate sensor is used by the ebcm to determine the rate of rotation along the vehicle's vertical axis. The lateral accelerometer and yaw rate sensor are housed in a single component and the part number for a new one is AcDelco 24413377 at a cost surpassing $200. However, as an alternative option, eBay has quite a few used sensors for a fraction of the price. Am unsure if replacing the sensor is plug-n-play or if it must be "calibrated" to the vehicle. It appears the sensor (picture attached) is located behind the brake pedal and would check the condition of the wiring, connector, and sensor (snug fit) as part of the troubleshooting process. EDIT: The workshop manual diagram is incorrect and the yaw sensor is not located behind the brake pedal.
