Could someone please enlighten me as to how to take the center console apart, I spilled some soft drink in there and my buttons won't work so I need to clean under there. Thanks!

Weird, I was looking for the same thing. I know there is instructions with pics on this forum somewhere...still searching. I'll post results here if I find them. But yeah, same thing happened; soda spilled everywhere and now the shifter sticks, especially in manual mode.

Alright, I have started on this. So far, I've gotten the trim plate off. I plan to take lots of pictures and make a new thread for this. Especially since I have to take the shifter plate off too. Uncharted territory. I haven't found pics for that yet, so I'll be taking my own. Stay tuned. ;)
That is why I don't allow any food or drink besides bottled water in my car. I rarely ever let anyone drive in my car with me either lol. I am too worried that my friends might treat my car like their own (And in this case, that would be a horrible thing.)
And I would be the same way except this is my DD and I have a wife with two kids, so this kind of thing is unavoidable. Funny thing is, this particular incident wasn't caused by my kids. LOL! However, my car has practically seen it all. One day, my son puked all over the back seat. Not fun.
Eventually, only I'll be driving it and I'll be able to enforce such "rules".

Is that some kind of special tool for pulling trim? Would just a screwdriver work?

Does that console piece just pop out with the auto trim tool....no screws? If so where's the sweet spots? I'm gonna need to pull mine soon too, gonna install a switch plate over in the sill area.

I used a regular screwdriver(be very careful you don't gouge the plastic, though) and first pried up the pointy corners by the cup holders and worked my way forward. Also, once you start getting some of it up you can see some of the clips inside and can just press on them with the screwdriver to get them out easier.

Here is the bottom of the trim piece. You can see where it snaps in place. The red circles indicate where the window switch snaps in place. The silver trim around the shifter pops right off

Before you get too far, remove your shifter. They have better instructions then I do:
http://www.jhp.com.au/g8partsdirect/PDF/G8_A6_Knob_Replacement.pdf

Next, unscrew the shifter trim base at the indicated green circles:

Don't forget this little guy (not sure if you actually have to remove that, whatever that is):

Unclip the shifter trim base (green circles-both sides) from the white lower base (forgot to take that picture when it was in the car):

After that, remove the black shifter slider plate.

Before you remove the white base, remove the blue gear selector LED sockets. Mine were pretty stubborn so I had to pry them out from the top after I removed the thin plastic light diffusers above them.
The lower white base is removed by pressing/pulling the taps indicated by the red circles. The ones in the rear require something long and thin to pry back the tabs.

After removing the white base, it looks like this. I don't know how to break it down any further, but this is as far as I need to go hopefully.

I also removed the padded foam insulation stuff too. After that's removed, you're left with this.

Hope this helps!!!

DD means Daily Drive? If so mine is also. And I understand now with the wife and kids. I don't have either so I get to sport my baby every where. And about your son puking lol, at least it is leather and easier to clean up than that fabric that was in my older pontiac lol. Puke would have just got all stuck and never came out lol.
I just had the same thing happen to me... except it was partly my fault and I'm going to place the blame also on the McDonald's drive thru cup filler. They filled my coke too full and it started seeping out by the straw and I didn't notice. Next time I looked down, there was coke all over and my passenger side window started freaking out. Not quite as bad as a spill, but still f***** annoying. This is a great help. Thank you to everybody who contributed to this back in 2010.
One day, I was going to the car, with a beer on my hand, to get something out of it. Needless to say, I accidentally spilled a 3/4 bottle of premium IPA into my front passenger seat! I was aghast! First spilled beer in my car!

I too, am anal about my interior...I wiggle a little on longer road trips, but I generally won't let my 12 and 7 year old eat things like fries, small ****, in the car...I don't even like the smell of fried burgers in there.....after three years, my interior still smells fresh.
I finally did this job last week, and wow did this guide help. I was afraid, a few times, that I was going to break the face plate over the whole console, but using the pictures provided, I was able to pinpoint where the clips were and therefor where the strongest points in the plastic were. I got everything off (with a little force) and was able to clean all the components I needed to.

I do have a question though. Maybe this is better asked in a different thread, but did anybody take their shifter knob off? How the eff did you get a screw driver back there? I was able to clean without getting it off, luckily, but I'm still curious.
put the car in drive and that gives you more space for the screw driver
