K i believe your license plate is laterbb, like as later bye bye, I was going home and i saw you on the highway leaving spokane, then when we went up the hill you tried to speed away, sorry for being so close i acually never see a g8 in my area and i knew you had to be fast. But i kept up until..... i broke belt witch tore out my camshaft pulley. Im surprise that the car still turns on and all and runs like no problem without a pulley.... but its at the shop now. I like to say hi and that your car is so ba that you broke mine lol. Maybe we should race at spokane raceway for a true race since i just installed my anti wheel hop kit lol.

well if anyone is wandering about my car, so thangs have gotten worse, when the camshaft pulley pulled out of the motor it took the threads off the camshaft so now they want to charge me 5000 for it, i said im not paying a dime because its not really my fault for that happening. The belt problem would be the gm shop and he camshaft problem would be on the installer since i got it installed no more than 4-6 months ago.

Was the car a white GXP?

Who did your cam install and why would it be their fault that the belt broke?

ummm, Sounds like you mean to report that your Crankshaft pulley came off. Since you are cammed, I'm sure that the dealer (gm shop) will not cover this, since it was not installed last by GM. Find a reputable shop, have the crank snout checked to see if it can be helicoiled. Then replace the offending balancer and belt, and you're on your way. This is NOT a lot of work.

k thanks for the tip and also bingo got it right, i belive it was gray but could be white for the crappy lighting in our area, also i went to the gm shop multiple times to get the belt replaced and kept getting pushed away so it would be there fault because they didnt fix the problem after i have been to the 6 times.

k got farther news on the g8, so in reality when i was driving the car the bolt was unscrewing itself witch didnt strip the hole till the end. But what was happening was the pulley started to shake back and forth witch in the end ended up screwing up the grinds on the camshaft so the camshaft is crap now. So should i get the people that installed it to cover it or should i sue them for doing a crappy job on installing the cam?

I had this happen twice after my motor swap. The stock pulley is a compression fitting. There are people on here who have re-used theirs, but I think they are playing with fire. Luckily for me the threads on my crank didn't get ruined. I now have a nice harmonic balancer on mine.

I'm not sure why you believe that the cam is shot. If the shop where you had the cam install done is telling you this, RUN! find another shop. It should not be.
GM is not on the hook here, because belts are a wear item, and you have had the balancer off for the cam install.
A reputable shop should tell you "Get a new balancer (if necessary) , a new bolt (ARP crank bolt), new belts if they got chewed up, and reassemble. They may have to run a M16X2.0 tap to clear the first few threads. This does not sound difficult, nor expensive.
As far as a lawsuit, you can file in small claims court easily and cheaply, but you better have your documentation in order, and have exhausted all avenues with the install shop.

+1.......+1...... yea... for sure... whoever told you the camshaft was bad or whatever is an idiot!!!!! if the camshaft chain went or was bad your engine would be in pieces... :).... valves would be everywhere!!!! .... as for the crank... just cause the thread if bad or messed up doesnt mean it cant be fixed and made to work..... +1... on everything todd said!!! dont let them take you for more than what you really need.... and in all your other threads... please stop saying camshaft.... that is getting old when you say camshaft...

Was gonna check in to see if you got the car fixed yet? Tonight i saw two g8's on the road while going up sunset hill. A red one which i thought was you but didn't see the spoiler and a white one which pulled right next to me at the highway patrol exit. I ordered kooks 1 7/8 headers and catted x-pipe and trifecta tune so hopefully the car will move and sound better in the next few weeks.

I know of 2 White ones in Spokane, a GXP and a GT. Did it have the basic GT rims on it?

GT rims and he pulled off at the petro station/ med lake exit so i'm assuming he lives in the cheney area. Even though i don't know how they consider that area cheney haha.

Hmmm, not sure if thats the GT I know of or not. I thought he had the 18" rims but could be wrong. He is on the SpokaneSpeed forums and I met him last year when he still had a Grand Prix. I'll ask him if he saw you.

Yeah i have seen a lot of g8's so far this week. I was behind another red g8 with no tinted windows at silverwood on saturday. haha better weather better cars on the roads!

This isn't a OHC 4 cyl engine with a belt driven camshaft, its a GM V8. The camshaft is located inside the block behind the water pump. It is driven off of a chain and gear set up similer to how a bicycle works and is directly driven by the crankshaft. No belt would ever be able to damage the camshaft and if a shop is telling you it has get your car the f--k out of there ASAP as they have no ever lovin clue what in the hell they are doing!

I know not every member here is an ASE/GM certified tech and I'm sure more then 1 of you wouldn't know a cam shaft from a crank shaft from an axle shaft and thats cool. But PLEASE those of you who aren't heed the advice of those of us who are! We have no stake in your car and no reason to BS you to try to get more cash from you.

OP, YOU are being BSed, RUN AWAY!

Ya sorry got my car fixed, it had the problem twice, now I check it every day and no problems anymore. My car actual just got sponsored by snows auto and I get to race at the drag race place behind the casino out here for free. Plus there planning to get me some nos for her :). But ya right now she is running constant 13.0s so if you would like to play some time you know were to find me on friday ;) but ya hope to see yall out on the streets to my car has the spoiler and wheels are painted black now.

nothing better than being sponsored thats for sure. The nice thing is I have friday and saturdays off for now so hopefully i can head out there and play too. Whats the cost to go out to the track now? I've driven by but have never gone in yet.
