Hi there,

I've been interested in buying an 09 G8 GT; but I've been kind of hesitant because I want to gain more information about common issues to expect/things to look out for throughout my car-hunt.

I currently drive a lifted 06 Jeep Wrangler as my daily driver so obviously a G8 is a nice change of pace and I'm really looking forward to purchasing one.

I've been planning on buying one with under 70,000 miles or so because chances are crucial parts may not need to be replaced as soon (hopefully, right?).

That was more of the kind of info I'm looking for, is certain signs to look out for, such as:
"It's very common for ________ to go around 80k miles"
"Make sure you bring it to a mechanic and have him get a good look at the _________".
The reason being this will be my daily driver, I live in Western New York so rust/salt is an issue. I'm hoping to hear the G8 is a reliable vehicle.
I'm mechanically inclined so I plan on taking good care of it.

The more information you're willing to provide, the better.

Thank you!

Ball joints go, but are covered under a TSB.
Also just had a sway bar end link go out at 60k miles. Most irritating rattle ever.

I just hit 176,000 miles on my car, last year we had the control arms, struts and strut mounts replaced on the front end. And the alternator and battery the year before that. We’ve had the car 6 years and it is my daily driver and our “visit the parents for the weekend” car. The car came with an extra set of winter tires and wheels which has been awesome (thank you previous owner) It’s a Michigan car so plenty of exposure to salt and snow. Winter driving is fun, but snow tires are a must in my opinion.

The strut top bushings were rubber and collapse Quickly. The struts and shocks on the GT and base were mediocre. So if these were replaced, that’s good.

I have only put about 15,000 miles on mine in 3 1/2 years and it only had 32,000 on it when I bought it so I cannot say much about problems with repairs as of yet. Seems to be a quality built vehicle. It does have so quirky features that kind of drive me insane though. Such as the very obsolete radio. Almost impossible to use cruise control function and location. The seat recline dial? Really power everything and it's got a big o knob you have to turn 1000 times to lean seat back. And the dial for moonroof. But I love the aggressive looks and roomy interior and the driving experience. But wife and kids unfortunately do not share my love for a spirited drive so mine may go up for sale here soon.
