Mr.Angry.GTP's Holden Build Thread

Warning: pic heavy thread.

Mod team: I apologize for the volume of my posts here over a short period of time, but I crammed 5 months of modding into a one night build thread build. Lol.

Thank you to: Danika, Crazy Paul, My car friends (who understand), my non car friends (that don't understand). Lol

Here we go:

I decided to post a build thread for my 2009 Pontiac G8 GT 1SD which is on a journey to find it's roots in Australia... ;)

My name is Gary, I'm 42, I'm from Niagara, Canada. My wife would tell u I pretty much eat breath and sleep cars. Especially these cars.

I've loved cars all my life, going back to being all of 6 yrs old when Burt drove that fabulous Trans Am in the Smokey and the bandit. Later it was Knightrider of course, and my passion for all things Pontiac was born...

I still remember riding my bicycle over to the Pontiac dealer at 15 yrs old and staring at the then new Flame Red metallic GTA Trans Am they just took delivery of and thinking to myself, I don't care how, one day I will own this car... And I did... and I still do, but more about that in a minute...

Over the years I've owned and wrenched on many many cars. From my first which was a 1975 Camaro with a 350 and an L88 hood scoop, to the next which was an 80 Monte Carlo, after that it was an 82 LN7 (kudos to you if you know what that is), then an 87 Escort EXP, then a 5.0 Mercury Capri RS, then a MK1 GTi, then some crappy imports, then that flame red GTA (an 88), then my 1992 GTA (which I still own), then some z24s as secondary vehicles, then a 2003 Sunfire GT, then onto Pontiac Grand Prix GTPs, a 97 project that never came to light, a 1998, and a 2004 Comp G (two time GPONA Car of the Month) named Regenesis, then a 2008 CTS4, and finally, here we are, my beloved Holden... Redline.

Like that GTA back in 1987, I knew that one day I would own one of these cars. Going for a ride in one (a GXP) a couple of years ago, seeing the Bathurst S on Top Gear, seeing Christian Coaches car, and watching a bizillion HSV and Holden vids pretty well sealed the deal.

So why do a Conversion? Well... Obviously it's not everyone's cup of tea... I know some Pontiac diehards are not going to like someone rebadging a G8, but considering these cars were designed, developed, and made in AU, the roots are undeniable. The rest is a matter of preference and this is mine. :p

By the way, I'm as Pontiac as they come... That 92 GTA I have..I've owned it the better part of 20 years now...

Anyways, on to the build...

I decided, after the transmission grenaded in my low mileage Cadillac CTS4, that that car had to go. I also decided to wait no longer and get behind the wheel of the car I really really wanted... A 2009 G8 GT 1SD.

To be honest, I didn't want another black car... 5 of my last 6 cars have been black... And we all know how much of a nightmare black is to keep clean and free of marks and scratches...

But... 1SD cars are uber rare north of the border, so I had to move fast when this one came on the market... The dealer put a 24 hour hold on it for me, and off I went... It was about an hour away from my house...

Here it is the day of my test drive:

Here are some cool pics the dealer took:

Found this gem in the glovebox...

The day to pick it up draws near...

The day I picked up the car, February 5th, 2014. It stayed clean for about 5 minutes... A keen eye will notice the Pontiac Arrow was removed for me by the dealer...

At this point, those that know me would tell u it won't be stock for long... They would be right. Debadging and rebadging started within 2 days of ownership. Much more to follow as I chronicle this build.

At the dealership, about to drive it home, only mod: tinted windows...

Some small goodies wee waiting for the car at home... The Holden obsession begins...

I will have the three positioning holes filled eventually... The dealer was supposed to do this but obviously that did not happen. I would have refused delivery until it was done if the car were closer to home...

Holden key fob overlay...

Steering wheel overlay v1.0... I have since moved on to amore suitable Holden part for this..

After a couple days of ownership...

Holden Lion logo center cap overlays...

A keen eye will notice the pontiac logo on front cap and holden on rear...

Small but mighty...

Nice job. One question though. ... Why does your window sticker say Onyx/Red interior?

Eagle eyes... Lol. Thanks for pointing that out.

I posted in error what I thought was my own window sticker but it was actually someone else's. I must have retained that picture to better understand what the 1SD package included. In my haste to put this thread together last night I didn't check myself. Thanks for that.

Here is my window sticker, it says onyx...

Are mi/gal different in Canada? I didn't know these cars did 34 mi/gal

I'm not sure if they are quoting the imperial or the us gallon... We are metric here.

Forgot to mention in the thread... The car also has a VMS HSRK. ;)

I did the same thing. I saved your picture to compare to my car. Mine is US. Same options though. Your sticker is imperial gallons and metric.
