Ok.. so recently i heard of someone with a LY7 Equipped G6 swapping the heads out for the GMC acadia heads and they made more power.

I tried getting a hold of the guy on FB but no answer from him.

So what i have found out is that the heads from both the Acadia and V6 Camaro are direct port injection.. ours are not.. The question i have is two fold.

1. How much of a process wold it be to swap the heads and do the necessary changes in fuel management to make them work.
2. If i stick with my stock heads and have them ported/Polished and milled.. could i throw a V6 OEM camaro Cam in it to make the extra power? Would this work

Thanks in advance..

Joe

It would be pretty involved and relatively expensive. The cost of both downtime and the marginal benefits of this wouldn't justify the headache. Especially since the LY7 in general has not been a model of dependability as far as timing and valve train goes.

I'm not a "guru," but I think most people would tend to agree. You're just not going to find much on the V6 for these cars.

I would not attempt that leap. I have done several things to my ly7 but changing heads not a good idea in my opinion. I'm not a guru but I do know a heck of alot since I have been adding and experimenting with things. There are a few good things you can do to the V6.
No matter what anyone tells you the LY7 has been awesome for me with the mods I have done. 300hp flywheel and 255 rwhp. Still got other stuff to add over the winter. But if you need help let me know. I have worked on and tuned a bunch of V6s. With the help of Overkill (Will).

The 2007-2008 Lambda platform (Acadia/Enclave/Outlook) was LY7 Port Injection.

Their cylinder heads have different intake ports. I haven't done or seen any flow numbers which suggest that one is better than the other, but certainly they're different, for whatever the reason.

The intake manifolds, both upper and lower, are different. I had looked at seeing if the Acadia lower manifold might be an upgrade for us since its runners are longer, but the head port mismatch is the problem there.

Non of the parts from the Direct Injection engines can be swapped to the Port Injection engine, to my knowledge, certainly not the heads or intake system.

Just to let you know.. I have access to the specs of all the cam specs put in all the versions of the 3.6l. They dont change much between them all and plugging them into Desktop Dyno in every configuration trying to find some power, only got me 2 or 3 hp. it did move the powerband around a little but only 200 or 300 rpm. Not really worth the trouble.. I have not gotten the specs for the new twin turbo 3.6 caddy engine yet. So maybe they might be better.

Yes I know.. I was looking for a less then $1200 option. Factory cams are fairly cheap in comparison.

I inset one picture within another, ensure you're comparing the two sets of ports rather than comparing one port to what's beside it, you'll see the difference if you note the details. I have both gasket sets around here somewhere, if I lay them overtop that's another good way to compare
