We obviously know that there are many variables here. But that wear is definitely excessive. The additional clearance added by the bad rod bearing could have caused a severe oiling issue on that cylinder, resulting in that skirt damage.

I've also seen this in extreme high horsepower cars where the rear two cylinders get a lot warmer than the front 6 cylinders, resulting in piston growth, but I don't think that was the case here.

probably clean up at .010. My pistons in #7 and #8 looked about the same...just like yours and we had to go .010 over. #8 was the rattler ....
