Hi everyone, I installed a catch can on my car to try and help out in making the engine last longer, but something doesn't seem right. I tried following an install on YouTube that someone else did on the G8. I have the passenger side PCV valve on the valve cover hooked up to a 3/8 hose that runs to the IN side of the catch can, then the factory lines coming off the intake manifold with that 3rd connector which would have gone to the pcv valve on the valve cover now going to the OUT side of the catch can. I believe this was how it was run in the video, yet after 5 minutes of idling and a 20ish minute drive there's nothing in the can. The car runs fine, it started up weird when it was warm at first but seems to have adjusted and runs and starts normally now. Remote start also stopped working right after I installed this, not sure if this would be the cause of that or not. Any help would be appreciated.
Edit: After looking at some other posts I'm pretty sure the reason my remote start won't work is because I have an emissions system issue (code p0449). This code came up a few days before I installed the catch can so that's not the cause of it. Just haven't gotten to look into the evap issue yet. If any of you have had this issue before, again help would be appreciated
Not sure about the catch can issue as I have never installed one and been fine for 270,000km but I just wanted to chime in about your remote start issue - if you have codes in the system, more specifically codes with an active check engine light on your dash, remote start is disabled. It will actually go so far as to shut the engine off while it's running on remote start if the check engine light happens to come on during that 10-minute run time (happened to me once when I took the car out of storage and remote started it, but a rat had chewed through some wires).
Oil Catch can P0449 could be caused by numerous things like a defective /loose fuel cap, broken/torn evaporative hose, etc. What color is the gas cap? Fortunately, the forum contains various threads relating to the code and fixes.

So I get the evap error code two weeks ago. I take the car into the dealership and the replacement feul cap that I got last year has a leak. The dealership replaces the cap and I'm on my merry way. Am I the only one that's gone through two fuel caps? At this rate I might need to buy them in bulk...
5 minutes of idling and a 20 minute ride is not going to show any oil in the can....
I installed a catch can on mine too. Next time I open the hood, I will look at the routing and report back. One of the better mods to do as our pcv system sucks.
After about a week of driving i checked and there's some stuff in there, i just assumed I did something wrong when there was nothing after a day. Thanks for the help though.
Regarding timing chains, keep the oil and filter changed. Keep the engine oil dipstick on full. Don't cheap out on either the oil or the oil filter. Regarding the notorious P0008 code, General Motors P0008 on-board diagnostic code.

Have had no issues with timing chains, just doing some preventative stuff. I'll make sure to keep up on oil changes, I have done one so far after 4,000 miles with full synthetic. Only have 66k on it so the engine should last a long time. Plus the previous owner took good care of it.

The one i got from amazon seems to work well so far. $25 for the can, all aluminum and seems to be machined pretty well. I'll post the link if anyone's interested. Comes with all the fittings and some hose clamps. Definitely get some better hose as the included hose is too short and cheap. I got some high temp fuel/vacuum hose also from amazon 3/8in diameter. I mounted it in the same spot at Hot Rod. Didn't have a metal bracket lying around so i designed one that lined up with the mounting holes on the catch can and 3D printed it.
I think I was more then 5 minutes that I had run the car in the YouTube video that I had made for the catch can install but that was a long time ago lol but glad it helped you

Yeah thanks I just wanted to make sure I did it right it's all good now and working great. I've seen some of your other videos too, I'm thinking about doing the 3.27 diff and revhigh spacers. Did you notice a difference with them?
The diff made a huge difference and I went to a 3.45 and the spacers have helped to keep the intake a.bit.cooler
