FYI, ozautomoulds.com.au has the clips and the current shipping rate is $55.00 for 10 each of the 3 hard to get clips. I'm fixing to order some and do the cowls myself when I get a new windshield.

Received my package from down under today with 10 each of the 3 different clips. Looks like I'm ready for a new windshield.

$65 on just clips...damn. I hate our cars sometimes :(
Yeah, I had to swallow hard, but after reading all the horror stories about broken clips and cowls all jacked up, I wanted to have spare clips and then I found out one of the clips was no longer available in the States and another was only available in 10's at $4.00 a pop, I had to bite the bullet.

I just bought a G8 few days ago and I remember the seller telling me that he had a new windshield put in it. I just now went out and looked at a 3/8" gap across the entire cowl. I don't know how long it has been this way, and I have no idea the damage that can be done.

Where does rain water go when it gets under the cowl ?

Probably just down the firewall along the chassis to the ground unless there are rain grooves.. there's also apparently a rain seal on the left side protecting the HVAC system. This seal is underneath the cowling. There's nothing on the drivers side beside the electrical line in grommets and brake booster.. both of which are probably gasketed off.

More than anything it's a cosmetic blemish that contributes to the pile of shoddy craftsmanship that we have to deal with through the love we have for our cars, so the additive function of the gap is to impair the overall aesthetic of our cars.

We have to remember that we all own cars that new were 35k-45k full size rear wheel drive sport sedans.. most other cars in that category START around 60k and some hit six figures...

Realize that a fully optioned FWD Nissan Maxima costs only slightly less than a Chevy SS... If that's not value I dont know what is.

So we deal with ****ty interior plastic paneling, cowling issues, features deleted or missing inexplicably between model years, and all the other little stupid decisions/cost saving measures GM was doing right before the bail out.

We could have even had both AFM AND VVT like the L99 Camaro engines but GM picked the most fuel/cost economical of the two and as such we got a six liter engine that puts out 361hp..

So, it's up to us and our love for these wonderful cars to deal with the headache that GM gave us by being a big, cold business and selling a product more than selling us a "Car".

That said, having this forum and you guys around here contributing have absolutely saved me on so many projects it's not even funny. I cant tell you all how grateful I am to you guys being here.

I stopped at my glass shop today and they ordered me a windshield that'll be here tomorrow. I'm going to get it installed Thursday and plan on taking my time and removing the cowls myself tomorrow afternoon. Fingers crossed this will turn out well.

Did you get a shipment and tracking notification after your PayPal invoice? How long did it take to get the notice?
It seems like it took a couple of days and I got a email saying it was processed and then about a week later, I got them in the mail.

Ok, I'll keep an eye out for it; I purchased them Tuesday but no word yet.

On another note Safelite has got a parts specialist tracking down the clips for me as well.

They're being very thorough and I've had great customer service with them to this point!

Just wish OEM glass wasn't a grand...
