My alternator went out last week have been trying to find a replacement but everything I find is $250-300. I'm a single income home with 4 kids and a handicap little brother under my care..can't really afford to drop an unexpected 300. The g8 gt is my daily driver for work. Anyone have any ideas or know someone that can get a decent deal for a replacement? Thank you

The lowest price I'm aware of, is the OEM ACDelco unit for $194. That's if you are talking G8GT. There maybe a functional rebuilt available (for less) from somebody, but most seem to be outright failures from the get go. If that's more than your willing or can pay, Youre going to need the help from other members that have some good info on a less expensive but reliable rebuilt unit. The GM p/n is 92191127 at Amazon

First off, way to take care of business as both a father and a big brother. Keep up the good work. Secondly, am getting two different part numbers for the G8 GT alternator 92191127 and 92173959. Walmart has the 92173959 for around $180 plus tax which either can be shipped to your abode or picked up at the nearest Wal-Mart. Rock Auto has both for around $195 including shipping. If you choose Rock Auto, google rock auto discount code for an additional 5% off. Then copy and paste the code in the how did you hear about us box. Amazon has the 92173959 for around $190 (new) and 92191127 for around $110 (used-acceptable). To date, the best deal ever scored on Amazon was a used-like new Ac Delco alternator for $15...yes $15. Don't recommend purchasing a re-manufactured unit from O'Reilly's nor Auto Zone unless you like swapping alternators. How were you able to determine the alternator is the culprit?

92191127 is the correct number for 08-09 GT

92173959 is V6 cars

The other deal with remans is they do not typically have the GT specific decoupler pulley.

The GT used them, the LS3 GXP did not ( auto or standard)
I surmise the GT go the decoupler because of the DOD and the pulsing when it that mode.

About 190-200 is a steal for the brand new 92191127, try and dig up the coin to go that route.

I just did my wifes GT due to the decoupler chirping

Dic displayed alternator warning...then after a few mins of driving, it went into battery saver mode. Had no juice to the wipers, stereo or windows..I'm just going off what the info center said

Twice noted captain. The Ac Delco e-catalog is inaccurate and states 92173959 fits: 2008 6.0L V8 VIN:Y, 2008 3.6L V6 VIN:7, 2009 6.0L V8 VIN:Y, 2009 6.2L V8 VIN:W, and 2009 3.6L V6 VIN:7. 92191127 fits: 2008 6.0L V8 VIN:Y and 2009 6.0L V8 VIN:Y. Didn't expand the vehicle specific list until now which would have presented the obvious error. Alternatively, remove the old alternator and have it bench tested for a more accurate diagnosis.

This is not your case BUT for anyone else where the clutch pulley that is chirping then I would replace just that. I have never been able to get the part number of the clutch pulley for the G8 GT alternator but an alternator repair shop should be able to get one. Clutch pulleys are expensive when compared to regular non-clutch pulleys. They are about $50 to $60 plus labor done by the alternator shop it will be about $90. I have replaced my alternator by getting the AC Delco unit for about 179$. And then kept the old unit around as a spare and will replace it's clutch pulley with a regular one. If money is tight the non-clutch pulley is way cheaper to get (about $10) and usable. There may be some new alternators floating around where they want to get rid of them for a lower price but nothing lower than 150$.

For what is worth, I went around and around the pulley deal.

The OE Prowler and OE GTO pulley listing, yes it appears to be the same pulley.

Problem is, a lot of jobber- aftermarket- resellers work on a "what will fit" mentality

My wifes pulley is stamped A25C5321C Made in Canada

This leads me to believe the original supplier was possibly Litens under licence

PAGE 8 part number J-09130-OEM

http://mail.aimpowerinmotion.com/files/AIM_Litens_OAD_Catalog.pdf

The one on Ebay, I went around and around with the seller, that pulley may fit, but it is not the same as original.

They swear it is the same and the picture is the actual part. spline vs hex, OE has a female hex

I think it is just a simple overrunning clutch type not the original ( more costly ) decoupler type

That was enough not to buy it for me.

Searching for the the exact part, they all seem to be in the 100-150 range.

That was working towards a new alternator price and the car has 60 some odd K on it.

All that said, my GXP doesn't have the decoupler, so I would think anyone with their DOD disabled, and they need a pulley, could just put a normal rigid one.

My wifes GT is all stock so I put it back the way is was.
