ok so its well known problem and i see there is even a bracket kit for the outer seat finish panel and even read somewhere about a supposed seat pad revision to help it. but the only part that seems to be available anywhere is the bracket kit. and have seen nowhere anything about a seat pad. so where are we supposed to get a new panel now that its discontinued? ive googled and ive checked local yards to see if there are any g8's but i would like a new panel. is there really going to be no more made? seems to be a pretty young car to have no replacement part support already.

I assume your talking drivers side here. If that is so, Amazon shows they have a new OEM panel assembly available (thru a Chevy dealer located in Canada I guess). Its listed with a P/N 92207874 an is shown in CDN $. If you prefer having a new item to work with, that part *might* still be available.

Check eBay, though they've gone up in price quite a bit. I bought mine in Dec 2017 for half of what they're selling them for.

They've definitely gone up in price.

If you don't mind switching to the Australian setup, the panels would be cheaper. And you wouldn't have to deal with the seatbelt recall issue (cable rubbing).

Bonus: You can get adjustable seat belts.

I am curious as to how to fix this as well. My drivers side is fine, but the passenger side has broken twice now. No idea why there wasn't metal added to reinforce the sides of those little arms on the trim piece which slide into the seat.
@GXP25, can you expand upon what you mean by switching to the Australian setup.

It's a little involved, but at the end of the day, you'll end up with a seat panel that can be sourced from Australia that isn't intrusive.

Interesting. So is there a nutplate in the body of a G8 to bolt the seatbelt to, or is that the "involved" part of the conversion?

I drilled a hole through the piece that sags, into the metal seat rail. Then used a self tapping screw to hold it all together. I used a screw head cover to hide the screw, similar to the covers used on license plate screws. Its been holding fine for 5 years and no one has ever even noticed the screw.

"Involved" as in needing to swap out seatbelts and make a hole in the carpet.

The body should already have the hole drilled/punched.

I wonder if there was a reason why the G8 had the seatbelt connected to the seat. I just worry that if it was due to some regulation that in the case of an accident, if myself or a passenger were injured, insurance could deny us.

I am unsure.

But I do know that aside from the G8, PPV, and SS, all of the other VE and VF vehicles around the world are setup with the seat belt attached to the floor. Surely, they could have moved them all to the seats with the VF after the G8 debuted if it was deemed a superior design to have the pretensioner attached to the seat.

I cannot find anything about a regulatory requirement for a third pretensioner being attached to the seat.

The 2012 Camaro SS has no third pretensioner and is mounted to the body.

I had a problem with the drivers seat trim coming loose about 5 years ago. Ordered a new one but have never used it. Took my car to a local upholstery and he repaired it by simply putting a black screw through the side panel. It is still working great till this day, If I ever need to replace the old one I would have the new one mounted the same way. Hope this was of some help.
