I have noticed there is a sticky for upgrading just the BASS of the factory radio, but no sticky for doing a proper upgrade of all components.

I think this should have been done a long time ago.

Here goes:

Factory Up harness - Part number

Found Here - http://www.scosche.com/car-audio/product/691

Factory Down harness -Part number

Found Here - http://www.scosche.com/car-audio/product/692

Wire that runs up the middle of the car for Line Out converter, then back to the harness at the radio.
This is a blue wire with lots of wires inside. need 2 of these

This item would do the trick - StreetWires iCS920C - 20' multi-conductor cable (eight speaker leads, one turn-on lead)

Found here - http://www.crutchfield.com/p_211ICS920C/StreetWires-iCS920C.html?tp=1541

Here is a write-up on how this harness is used and how it connects to the Line Out Converter

Pin-out Diagrams of radio harness..

Another Great thread showing the side of the head-unit and what you are connecting the harnesses to

I would say this takes care of the head-unit wiring side of things.

What size speakers fit in our doors / center / sub-deck area

Dash - 3 1/2 Coaxial (preferably 16 ohm or w/resistor mod )

Here is a useful thread, shows the tweeter install in the dash. Good stuff.

Here is a great thread on performing the "resistor mod" for the center dash speaker. This makes it quieter and less over-bearing.

Rear Deck Subs - 8" (Free-Air/Infinite Baffle) Compact Subs like the Kicker CVT Shallow Mount Series

I'll be updating this as I stumble on more info.

It has taken some time, but I am in the process of updating this with information as I find it and consolidate it into 1 master thread.

A 1-stop full stereo system upgrade thread...in the works.

Thread updated with some good stuff.

I would say this covers MOST questions that are asked.
These were the questions I had at least.

Are there any useful threads on REPLACING the entire headunit, that might be worth posting in here?

Amplifier remote power turn on

Planning a full stereo upgrade and the diagram is great.

Quick question, would pin 31 in the stock harness be used for the power turn on for my new amplifier?

Need to make sure the amp turns on and off correctly.

Thanks for any help, Brandon.

I have a base model G8 V6 with NO stock amp, sub, and rear deck speakers. Would I need a line converter if I am just wanting to add a aftermarket sub/amp? Would it be a good idea to get an additional 4 channel amp to power the stock speakers or get a 4 channel amp plus new after market speakers?

Yes to the LOC, unless the aftermarket amplifier has speaker-level inputs or you use a sound processor. If you're going to buy an amp then also buy aftermarket speakers. The speakers are more important than the amp.
