So about a year ago our 6L80 transmission took a crap (low on fluid and pump burned up, whole 9 yards). Anyway, the situation we are in is after taking the transmission apart there was more damage in the 4-5-6 clutch pack. Parts and all got pretty pricey so we started looking for a replacement transmission and scored a 2014 Camaro SS 6L80 with 14k miles for way less than parts would be.

After some research we have some concerns about the TCM not being compatible with our 09 G8GT due to upgrades for the newer 6L80's.

My question is, has anyone on here gone through a similar situation? Is it possible to reflash the Camaro TCM and it work for the G8 or will we have to get another G8 TCM (which Ive been told they are discontinued) and install it in the new transmission?

Any feedback will be appreciated!

Hmmm, this is a good question. Id recommend calling Greg from pace performance. I bought a new TCM from him when mine took a crap. He flashed a stock g8 tune to it and VIN matched it for me. Im willing to bet he'd know if its compatible.

But either way the camaro TCM will have to be VIN matched and a stock g8 tune flashed to it.

You will not be able to use the Camaro TCM in the G8 or even reflach it to work. You must use the G8 TCM or one compatable of being flashed as a G8 with your VIN.

The supply of spares keeps getting tighter so more rebuilds will result in the future. Glad that you have tracked one down.
I have a specialist on tap in another city nearby who is a system wide GM Transmission builder if the issue comes up for me. My local garage guy here succeeds because he farms work out to specialists...even if he has to a neighbouring town.

Just to note here, I put an LX LINK OBDII to bluetooth module on in order to get Torque App on the go. I was away from home when I picked it up and tried to run it. I got a 0700 code and the transmission locked up in 2nd gear in Drive and would not shift. Fortunately I had an OBD II tool to reset it. It is all good after reset. My tune mods included the TCM.
The transaction with the seller was a refund after I refused to return the item on the grounds that the module compromised driver safety. The seller on e bay did not argue with this point.
