On my 2008 G8GT a tire fault appeared while driving. All 4 tires showed as dashes. I went to engineering mode and all 4 tire pressures were displayed and all in the correct range. So, I am puzzled as to what's going on. The TPMS system seems to be working OK. Anyone else seen this?

Original tire pressure monitoring system sensors?

If you haven’t changed the sensor, you need new ones now. When the batteries die, no signal, just dashes

They did us all dirty, that when one sensor dies, it blanks all the measurements out so you don't know which one.

Actually, if you go to engineering mode, the pressures do show up. The bad sensor in my car is the left rear and indicates 148 psi not zero. It has been so long since I had a monitor go bad I forgot about what actually shows up. I have 3 cars with the TP monitors: 2 G8s and a Solstice.

I am having a similar issue. My tires are all at the correct pressure, I have new GM sensors installed with the dates checked and I still get a tire pressure error at times while driving. I simply push the button on the steering wheel to clear the screen and ignore it. It clears itself further down the road or the next time I start it. For me, it is a quirk I deal with.

I started a post about tis a while back, the link is below. ( Sorry guys, I don't know how to post it as a link like others have done.)

POST #52 gives a good explanation of how the system works.

Good luck with yours.

Same issue with my 2009 GT. Being somewhat parsimonious, I will be waiting until Autumn when I will be replacing my tires and have new sensors installed at that time. Meanwhile, I just periodically check the tire pressures the old fashioned way.

That’s what I do. Just check the pressure with a tire gauge every once and a while. Or, look at the DIC periodically when it is working. I only get the tire pressure error every once in a while. No tire pressure issues when I check them manually. Have had this issue since I have had the car. I just roll with it.

My wife's GT shows all dashes for all 4 tires. In engineering mode it shows 148 for each of the four tires. My GT show dashes, both in and out of engineering mode. Any suggestions?

Original tire pressure monitoring system sensors? If so, replace with units that have fresh/er batteries. May want to consider replacing the valve stems as well. The sensors aren't rebuildable nor serviceable.

I just had my bad TPS changed. Kept my original valve stem to maintain originality of the car. No real need to have it changed. My local Walmart did the job. It is not necessary to remove the tire from the rim - just break the tire loose from the rim and replace the TPS. Since only the front bead of the tire was broken loose and the rear bead remained in place, rebalancing was unnecessary. They have a scan tool that allows relearning the positions of the sensors without having to go through the process with the car system. The process took about 3-5 minutes. Walmart does not charge for the replacement labor, only the cost of the TPS unit, and the resetting process was free. The TPS unit price was the only cost.

@nda9090 Replacing the valve stem(s) or at least checking condition is advisable. Have experienced numerous times where the tire and/ or rim was serviced. Filled with air. Ready to be mounted on the vehicle. Only to discover a leak, cut, tear, etc. in the valve stem. Take such for what it's worth.

The original valve stems are not rubber, whereas replacements are and more likely to be subject to the problems you have cited. If the tire replacement people are careful the stems will not be damaged. This is the 3rd set tires on my car over the 15 year life of the car. The most likely failure associated with the valve stems will be the Schraeder valves - easily replaced. Thanks anyway. I do appreciate the advice.

Leaky Valve Stem
Whatever material the valve stems are comprised of they're not immune to leaking for a plethora of reasons. Obviously, different materials are more or less prone than others to doing such. Experienced the scenario on the G8. Do not know if it was an original or replacement tire valve stem. Again, take such for what it's worth.

Yes, the 2008 GT IOM guy. Hagerty Ins has published an article on the (my) IOM car with a picture of the car and me in their latest Driver's Club magazine. Also have a 2009 PBM GT (my wife's). Also have a 2009 Solstice GXP.

Have fun!

The IOM car was built in January of 2008. Not sure of build date for the PBM car. We bought that late 2009 - used. It had just over 16K miles. Now has just over 92K miles. Still runs very strong. Only had to replace the alternator this past year.
