The long tube headers are read have issues with dipstick and need to move all exhaust hangers.
The steering knuckle does that interfere even with short or mid length headers?
I want to keep my stock exhaust and just do the most efficient bolt in headers to compliment my CAI and axle backs (dynomax super turbo) I like the drone less sound with AFM.
Is there a header that is a direct replacement that someone here has installed In like 3 hours..
Besides stage 8 locking bolts and new header gaskets is there anything else I would need? Is the flexible dipstick by lokar a must? If so what part numbers for everything so I can get it done all one shot.
Thanks in advance
Links pics and part numbers appreciated
If you have dyno'd before and after what were your gains to the wheels?
I don't know much about short or mid length other than they don't offer nearly as much gain. If you are concerned about installing long tubes I can say that it's not nearly as hard as it seems. I installed my Kooks long tubes in about 3 hrs with the car on jackstands. No fitment issues whatsover, but they come at premium for a reason. The factory midpipe will need to be modified or replaced but you'll have much better end results with long tubes.
I live in a no emissions state I dont want cats at all as long as it can be tuned out..going to dyno it as it sits to see how much the AFE intake makes over stock.
What were the HP gains on the midlengths?
I dont want to replace the mid pipe i would like to keep it as quiet as possible yet get all the HP/TQ I can without changing the OEM midpipe.
+1 on the Kooks mids and high flow cats. It's the route I went as I also didn't want to change out the rest of the exhaust and they are awesome. Word of caution though, with the kooks mids and the dynomax mufflers, it will probably be quite loud. I had Magnaflow axlebacks on my car when it was all just stock and that was pretty tame, but then when I put on the kooks, it was way too loud for me. I ended up swapping the GT mufflers back on and love the sound now. Nearly quiet at cruising speeds and a nice sound at WOT. Great for a DD
OP - you do know the factory midpipe necks down to 1-3/4inch at the crimp in front of the resonators - correct? Have you actually looked at it? Also, to connect to factory midpipe, the 3" collector on the headers necks down to maybe 2-1/4inch. If you want most bang for the buck, headers without cats, and new midpipe full 2-1/2 or 3inch and end with oem muffler which btw, get restrictive at 400ish rwhp
Kooks 3/4 mids and never look back, I believe Pat G did a comparison years back and found that difference was about 3-7 HP from Long Tubes, Painless Perfect fit on our 2
I had JBA shorties, but on my old car. Cert with OEM cats only, which is minimal improvement. I bought them because i had the Solo cats first. With GXP cats they would be OK.
