The factory 92208207 windshield is no US stock, no delivery times .
Usually, this is the prequel to NLA.

Questions,
Does anyone know the actual differences of the 92272887 Caprice of 92281591 SS ?
SS is rain sensing so there is that.
What I am asking, are they the same shape other than the blackout areas ?

Next, for people that have gone aftermarket, what brands are the correct Acoustic windshield ?

Thanks

Add in the HUD as well.

Have you looked into the Caprice windshield as well?

Ah, yes the HUD, forgot about that.
We dont have SS's here above the 49th.
I have only seen 2 in my life.

Yes the Caprice 92272887 as in my first post.
Problem for me, a Canadian Dealer can't even order parts that are specific to the SS or the Caprice .
This is for the GT, I would not lose sleep over a not exact replacement.
Any other time, I could buy, ship to Washington but cant cross the border.
If I involve a bunch of different cartage companies, for sure I will end up holding the bag for a cracked windshield with everyone in the chain claiming ignorance
Thanks

92208207. Just looked it on the site for Tubman motors. $471.55. That’s 1/3 off list.

Feeling that way too. Drive-train not so much but moldings where the rubber has disintegrated. Seemed like a good investment but I have actually had more fun in this car then my departed 2015 Charger Hellcat. That car was fun but three pairs of shoes in 6K miles was a little rich for me. Only once could I get 0-60 in 3.7. The ole GXP is always 4.7. Top speed in GXP 155 mph and limiter kicked in. Hit 173 in the Charger and if the runway was longer I could see a possible 200 MPH.
With all that said, I think the GXP with minor mods would beat the Hellcat on a road-course, but not a drag-strip.

Ponyman, I have read a number of those threads, the talk about the curvature concerns me.
the SS comment, really looking for someone who had actually done it. Thanks

Edit FYI, the latest SS number appears to be 92509388

GT Drew, Yes great deals on them, my dealer will sell a smidge less also in CDN dollars , but as I say , no North American stock, no delivery dates.

Only 56, Thanks ???

That is not true, the GM parts supply chain is unified/integrated for Canada and USA.
Canadian dealers can order anything a US dealer can.

However, they will not be able to help figuring out which part to get when the G8 part is NLA - if you're wanting an SS/PPV part, they never saw those cars and it would be unfair to expect them to know the ins and outs of models they never sold :)

What I do, figure out the part number from Rockauto, USA GM online parts sites or forum information. Then look for availability on the online parts order system from a few of the Canadian GM dealers who do online orders, then order it. Only once I had to email first as some items they can get aren't on the website. No need to mention it's a Caprice or SS part, or USA only - don't give them a reason to be spooked and not order the part... Just make sure you got the right #'s first!

Go ahead, try it
Try and order a part for a 2015 Chev SS that is not used on any other car sold in Canada.
When your dealer gets to the point of ordering, they can't get a price.

Case in point
2017 SS left fender 92289651
$345 gmpartsline.com
$343 gmparts direct. com

Tubmangmpartsdepot.ca no price
Jackcartergmpartsdepot.ca no price
Buykipscottgmparts.ca says discontinued

When the SS first had rear discs, I rushed to the phone with the correct part numbers to buy for my GXP.
No pricing , although guy in the states were buying them.

Sure there are glitches and exceptions but it is a real thing.
I have been dealing with the same dealer for 45 ish years, some of the parts guys near that.
They go the extra mile for me.
Today, my dealer looked up
09 G8 windshield
15 SS windshields (2 choices)
14 Caprice PPV
Went through all the changeups, supersessions.
Got price on G8
Could not get price on SS or Caprice

I have done it plenty of times - however I did not check to try and order the whole car!
My high-mounted brake light is the SS part, got it from Tubman.
I have a few other PPV and SS parts from the dealer but I'd have to look through my orders... my GXP has been quite the project...
The local dealer was definitely able to provide a quote on a GXP manual transmission, and it's on order - still waiting for it to arrive. That was definitely never sold in Canada!

I saw a post from somebody working in GM parts supply explaining it a few years ago, might be from LS1tech? He said you could order anything (at the time), and everything I needed I could get so far!

Not surprising there would be exceptions... especially glass, the longer time it spends in the truck the more chance of breaking it.

Not to belabor the point
92155454
appears to currently be listed but both G8 and SS
Yes, agreed on the GXP parts, I have had no issue either buying parts
I submit, that is a little different being it is a variant of a car sold here

There will be exceptions to bolster your and my statements I am sure.

OK, nuff of this,,

A complete GXP TR6060 ?
What happened ??

Mine had the cold grind 1-2 since new but the fix was a bunch of parts listed for a '12 Camaro :)

Indeed that info I saw previously is incorrect, good/bad to know I can't actually get everything from the catalog - better to know ahead of time I guess!

Were you able to do the work on your own, or worked with a shop?

The trans was broken when I got the car, no idea how it got like this.
There aren't that many manual G8 GXP's already imported and ready to go, I figured it would be cheaper to fix this one than importing a nice one from USA... it will be when done but not by much.

1st gear goes in <30% of the time at a stop, doesn't go in when going 2km/h or above.
2nd gear is better but far from normal
3-4th gear synchros not great either
I can hear many busted bearings now. (That's a newer development)
Output shaft seal was leaking, clutch was burnt out, when I test drove it I saw some of the issues but didn't realize their extent or the cost of parts at the time... I figure it was possibly driven with low/no trans fluid at some point.

Checked with a few transmission places locally in Calgary, they wouldn't work on it (What's a G8?). Called 5 or 6 LS speed shops, they all work with RPM, they couldn't refer anybody local.
Next option was Tick Performance, seems like the preferred rebuilder on this forum... their free shipping doesn't apply to Canada (they don't discount for not using the shipping) and the posted price includes the package parts only - broken parts not included in the package are extra $$$.

Found a couple places in Alberta that could get the parts. I looked into doing it myself but I'm not quite at that level yet.

With the best shipping quotes I got, I had a buffer of about 700$ for parts + any duties/GST CBSA will want, before the Tick way being more than the brand new trans. Decided to go for the sure thing this time.

Totally possible I missed a shop that could do it for less though!

Short story,
Long time friend GM dealer bought the car brand new and brought to BC,
Always from day one cold 1-2 grind .
His service department threw the kitchen sink at it in '13 just before I got it.

Other than that, yes I do everything myself
Only done a couple of TR6060s ( one of our race cars still has one) but they really are the same to work on as the T56 which I have done more of.
Yeah, genuine Tremec , especially sourced from GM parts are pricey.
A lot of the vendors are pretty tricky-cagey with their descriptions of sources.
Recently got "tricked" on a Tremec 5th driven. Were chasing a very subtle whine and didnt want aftermarket parts.

Totally get you sourcing a brand new GM trans if the economics work.👍🏻👍🏻

Wow that's nice of him to sell it all fixed up!
Ya I still don't get why the one guy who works on T56's locally in his own shop refused to work on this one...

Did you read about the cowl clips, apparently they often break when removing the cowl to replace the windshield: Plastic cowl below the front windshield
At least one type is NLA, there is an aftermarket source from Australia mentioned in the thread.

Please share where you eventually get a windshield from, at some point we all need one :)

Yeah, little bit of highway robbery going on there.
At least the yellow white can be had cheap
I have a glass shop looking for a replacement , which I will only accept if it is the correct acoustic type.
I'm not going to lose sleep over a aftermarket windshield in the GT
I have also ordered the G8 part number one through my dealer.
If it ever comes , into stock it goes 🙂
Two G8s in the driveway, sooner or later, something will happen

The only brand i know of is Pilkington. Had mine replaced approximately 2 years ago. I think most auto glass companies have to use this. Originals were made in France (think the name is Saint-Gilbains, or something close).

Actually I have two G8 GTs and both have had replacements installed - both Pilkington brand.

There is no way that Holden had the clips made special, They must have some other application in the world.
Like the 92138942 readily available aftermarket because they also fit other things including a Dodge caravan door!

Ill keep searching and If I find suitable replacements for the difficult ones , I will share, rather than ripping people off on Ebay

There's a company on eBay selling a complete set of twelve cowl/lower scuttle clips for around $78.00. At over six dollars each, that's still a tad bit rich for PONY MAN. Presume there would be some sort of alternative, but locating it/them could be quite the chore.
