Update, for fun.
Because I have two cars and will likey need another later, I had the glass shop try to source as well as my dealer.
My dealer originally said there was one in the Eastern States , but when he ordered it came back as backordered from source.
BUT HE SAYS , there is one at a dealer in my city.
Turns out it is the one the glass shop ordered for me 👍🏻👍🏻
Told my dealer to keep my second on order.
Well, he phoned today .
My second came in directly from Australia to Vancouver (my city).
Factory glass ,Saint Gobain
Unfortunatly,,,,,,, it is broken,,,
Thanks Fed Ex

So they're still getting them from Australia it seems.

I need to order one as well.

No idea, my dealers info didn't the first time or this time go any further than
"No nationwide ( as in north America) stock, backordered from source."
Little more than a week, the broken one showed up Fed Ex from Aus.
Time will tell if we get another.
My immediate issue is solved as the glass shop did obtain the first dealer window.
Now I am waiting for the black+gray cowl retainers that I had shipped by mail out of Aus.

I think have found a reasonable cost supplier that is supposed to have all the clips.
If it pans out, I will certainly share to put an end to the Ebay rip off deal

Wow, finally arrived. Hope the shop reads up on the install procedure. Very specific on how tall the bead of urethane is and the clips to be replaced. Not enough and it leaves a gap at the cowl trim

Step 3
Record orginal glass height.
Note, because this is oe glass with all oe locators and foam for height very little wiggle room.
Step 4
Install
Motor vehicle Vehicle Windshield Car Glass
Motor vehicle Windshield Vehicle Glass Automotive exterior

It sits about .060-.075 higher at the base.
Will wait a couple hours, take it home and refit rubbers.

The one thing I did that may be of interest.
I drilled the bottoms of the wiper arms.
This because the area around the nut fills with water and corrodes the nut.
I normally keep the nut end end of the shaft greased but think this might be a good solution to the water puddling in there.

Looks great and glad everything worked out. Presume this is the first dealer window versus a replacement for the second, correct?

Yes, this is the window that the glass shop ordered from their supplying GM dealer here in town.
My Aus-Can direct broken one has been reordered.
One thing I never saw in anyones threads,
disassembling the new cowl retainers is the way to go.
With the retainer seats in the holes and just the upper pin sections in the cowl , the panels clip down with almost no pressure.
Also there are 4 or so positions that the clips are holding both sides sandwiched.
With them dissasembled, the lower lines up and retains the left cowl to the car.
Then the right cowl with the pin comes down and gently locks both in .

I want to thank @95wagon for providing pics of the glass installation and especially the re-installation of the windshield cowl.

Four years ago I wasn't that fortunate. I relied on Safelite since that is the glass vendor that my insurance uses and they couldn't get it right.

First of all they didn't measure the glass height. @95wagon , can an you elaborate on how you correctly measure the glass height, and more importantly can you provide the measurement you got? I am hoping it will help me get my windshield cowl flush with the glass again.

I have a small ding in my "new" four year old windshield. Sounds like this is the opportunity to pay for OEM glass and finally get it done right. I need to find a glass shop with experience though. No more Safelite.

Do you think the Safelite debacle had more to do with the installer's overall lack of knowledge, preparedness, incompetence or something else?

I did not consciously save the numbers , possibly the scraps of tape are still somewhere in my shop at work.
Not sure, will also see if I can get at the corner of the glass on my GXP to measure it as it still is original glass.
Simply a measurement of the glass to the steel cowl in the bottom corners.
I have to replace the cabin filter so that gives an excuse to pull the RH cowl panel .

Question to guys with aftermarket glass.
Did it come with the two big mounting lugs at the inside top.
The oe has these big pins on the top to locate the glass on two guide holes in the roof panel flange .
They control where the windshied sits.
No up-down , very little left right

The most important thing I read in this forum was never pry up at the windshield side
Work from engine side to get the clips released.
Although i changed all, I broke less than half.

Some you can get to the back of and release them.
A close fitting washer slid up the bottom of the clip nicely compressed the tabs.
I actualy removed the alarm horn so I could get behind the rare and expensive " red and blue" clip 🙂

My glass guy had no idea of any of the clips, or reported height issue .
Didn't even know what a G8 was
Thanks to this forum, I was ready and had done the homework, removed the trim and taped up the car.
As a glass guy, he was quite careful and competent.
Being I had the car sitting in the race shop, surrounded by cars 10, 20 times more valuable, he likely got the unspoken message I was particular.
